Rohit Sharma Reveals His Opinion On The MI-CSK IPL Rivalry

Ahead of the biggest clash of IPL 2019, Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma feels that the IPL rivalry between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (MI) is equivalent to the popular El Clasico football clash between arch rivals Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Both the three time winners, MI and CSK will be playing against each other later in the day at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The two heavyweight teams have so far played each other in 26 IPL games out of which Mumbai has won 14 times, while CSK has emerged victorious on 12 occasions.

The passion is the same

During a recent interview, Rohit mentioned that the MI-CSK rivalry is the biggest battle and the passion is the same like in El Clasico. He stated that IPL is celebrated as a festival in India and people are crazy about it. Rohit noted that culture of Premier League will surely arrive in India in the next five to ten years.

“I’m not talking about fights, but the passion that we see in a Liverpool vs Man United game or you know the El Clasico, it is the same when Mumbai and Chennai play in India. And you can make out these things especially from the overseas players. IPL has always been a festival. People in India enjoy it, enjoy it as in they go crazy. I see the culture of Premier League coming to India,” said Rohit Sharma.

They are one of the most successful teams

Rohit mentioned that CSK is one of the most successful teams in the history of IPL. He praised the MS Dhoni-led team for its remarkable consistency, reaching the playoffs nine times out of ten. The MI skipper also revealed that he feels that it is the biggest rivalry as there is always that tussle between the two teams.

“I think they are one of the most successful teams. This is their tenth year and they have been in the playoffs in all the nine years. That tells us something. CSK has won three trophies, we have three,” he added.

“I’m not saying that the Mumbai Indian versus Chennai Super Kings rivalry is big because people love it, but mainly because of the tussle these two teams have whenever they meet. You know that’s probably the reason why it is one of the most watched IPL games of the season,” concluded the MI skipper.
