Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell has grabbed massive headlines in just the first week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza. The big-hitting West Indian has contributed with match-winning performances in the first two games against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab (SRH). He blasted a stunning knock of 49 runs off just 19 balls and also scored a blistering innings of 48 runs against Punjab. He was adjudged as the Man of the Match in both the games. Russell also played a blistering knock of 62 runs off just 28 balls in the recent game against Delhi Capitals (DC).
It does a world of good to your confidence
During a recent interview with the media reporters, KKR fast bowler Prasidh Krishna mentioned that bowling to Russell is the ideal preparation. He noted that it offers a great confidence while practicing with the explosive all-rounder. “It is the ideal preparation as when you are bowling against him (Russell), it does a world of good to your confidence. When you go back to one of the matches, you know you have done so well with Russell,” said Prasidh Krishna.
Krishna revealed that Russell hits the ball in the nets in a similar manner as he does on the field. He termed the big West Indian power-hitting batsman as the best striker of the ball in the shorter format of the game. “Russell has been like that even in the practice games, when he was hitting it really far. As bowlers, we know we are bowling to the best batsman in the world when it comes to T20, at least with the hitting ability that he has,” he added.
Consistency is the best weapon
Krishna made his debut last year for KKR and had a fantastic first season with the Kolkata-based franchisee. He stated that he has worked a lot on improving his consistency. He reckoned that he has added a lot of variation under his armory.
“Consistency is the best weapon. That’s one thing that I have worked on. Apart from that, I do work on the variations I bowl,” Krishna further added.
However, the KKR pacer did go on to mention that he wants to increase his pacer as it will make him different from the rest. He also noted that he wants to bowl at a serious pace on consistent basis. “I would want to get more speed, because that is something not everyone can do. I want to do it consistently,” concluded the KKR fast bowler.
