IPL 2019, Match 21- RR Vs KKR, Preview: Rejuvenated Royals Eyeing To Take Down The Dre Russ-Carnage

In the second game of the blockbuster Sunday, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be locking horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Both the teams are coming into this match after recording brilliant wins in the respective previous outings. The Royals haven’t had a great start to their IPL 2019 campaign, winning just a single game out of four and are thus, placed at the seventh spot on the points table. Whereas the Dinesh Karthik-led team has so far experienced a rampant run in the season, registering three convincing victories from four games.

RR’s backstory

After the initial results not going in their favour, the Ajinkya Rahane-led Rajasthan Royals finally managed to open its account with a smashing win over Bangalore in the previous game. With that special victory, the hosts have settled some of their major batting woes as well. The two of the biggest positives for RR from the last match was the form coming of Jos Buttler and Steven Smith. The team management would now be feeling pretty confident of their batting to keep up the good work in the upcoming games as well.

The Royals’ bowling has been exceptional at home this season, with the likes of Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal dishing out some great standout performances. However, except for Archer, the other Indian fast bowlers, Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni and Varun Aaron have failed to make an impact thus far. The home team needs to sort out their death bowling issues pretty quickly as in the upcoming game they will be up against an in-form belligerent named Andre Russell.

KKR’s backstory

On the other hand, the Knight Riders have been on a ‘Russell’ bratory run in the tournament. KKR all-rounder Andre Russell has taken his side towards some unbelievable victories that too from the most impossible situations. However, the biggest positive from the previous game would be opener Chris Lynn coming back amongst the runs. With the likes of Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik already in a great touch, the KKR batting is now looking as a pretty settled and brutal line-up.

The three spinners did an excellent job on a flat Chinnaswamy track in the previous outing. However, it was the fast bowlers who came under the radar and conceded too many runs both upfront and during the death. But with not much of experience on the bench, the duo of Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson are likely to be persisted with for this game as well.

Rajasthan Royals’ likely Playing XI

The duo comprising of skipper Ajinkya Rahane and in-form wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler will open the batting. The rest of the middle-order batters will be Steven Smith, Ben Stokes and Rahul Tripathi. Their batting positions will be finalized in accordance with the situation of the game.

In the fats bowling department, Jofra Archer will be accompanied by Dhawal Kulkarni and Varun Aaron, while Stuart Binny is likely to be left out. The Karnataka teammates, Shreyas Gopal and Krishnappa Gowtham will take care of the spin bowling duties.

Probable XI: Jos Buttler (wk), Ajinkya Rahane (c), Sanju Samson, Steven Smith, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Krishnappa Gowtham, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Dhawal Kulkarni, Varun Aaron.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ likely Playing XI

The KKR team management have absolutely no major reasons to unsettle the perfect winning combination. The explosive pair of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine will be taking guards as the openers. Robin Uthappa will head the middle-order which will include the likes of Nitish Rana coming in at four and Dinesh Karthik and the dangerous Russell-muscle to follow. Shubman Gill will once again take up the role of a floater.

Russell will also partner with Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson in the fast bowling department. The Knight Riders will as usual go in with three spinners in Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine.

Probable XI: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), Andre Russell, Shubman Gill, Piyush Chawla, Lockie Ferguson, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.
