IPL 2019, Match 23- CSK Vs KKR, Preview: Clash Of The Titans Awaits In Chepauk

In the 23rd game of the exciting Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, two of the heavyweight teams of the season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be locking horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 9. Both the teams are coming into this game after registering clinical victories in their respective previous outings. The hosts have been sensational thus far in the season, winning four out of the five games played in the tournament. While the Dinesh Karthik-led team have also punched above its weight to record four brilliant wins and in turn claim the top spot on the points tally.

CSK’s backstory

The MS Dhoni-led team will be entering this match after strangling Punjab to claim a brilliant victory in the previous game. With that amazing win, CSK also settled out some of the slight issues which transpired after that loss to Mumbai Indians (MI).The inclusion of Faf du Plessis at the top of the order worked brilliantly well. The out of form Ambati Rayudu also looked pretty comfortable while batting down the order. However, the likes of Shane Watson and Suresh Raina are yet to arrive in their usual form.

The CSK bowling definitely felt the absence of its potent and experienced performer, Dwayne Bravo. The likes of Deepak Chahar and Scott Kuggeleijn did an excellent job upfront, but they clearly felt the pressure during the death overs, the stage of the game where Bravo is reckoned to be a specialist. However, the three spinners displayed a brilliant combined performance to contain the opposition in the last match.

KKR’s backstory

The table-toppers are coming into this game after recording a dominating performance in their previous game against Rajasthan Royals (RR). KKR batting likes of Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill had already shown their brilliance in the first week of the tournament and the opening duo comprising of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine too joined the party in the last outing. The pair launched an incredible power-hitting carnival to announce their form arrivals this season. While the belligerent named Andre Russell has already owned the season with some blistering and unbelievable performances.

The fast bowling department also got strengthened by the selection of Harry Gurney, who bowled really well in his debut game. The rest of the bowlers also registered a decent performance and they will be hoping to continue the good work in the upcoming games as well.

Head to Head Battle

Overall (21)

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium (8)

Chennai Super Kings’ likely Playing XI

There is absolutely no reason for the CSK team management to make any changes in the side. The in-form Faf du Plessis will open the batting along with Shane Watson. Suresh Raina will take up the crucial number three slot, while the rest of the middle-order will include the likes of Ambati Rayudu, skipper MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav and Dhoni will be needed to play the finishers’ role.

CSK will once again field three spinners in Imran Tahir, Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh as the Chepauk wicket has been supportive to the slow bowlers thus far in the season. Scott Kuggeleijn leaked quite a few runs in his debut game, but he will still be given another chance to prove his worth and thus he will partner with Deepak Chahar in the pace bowling department.

Probable XI: Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Scott Kuggeleijn, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ likely Playing XI

Just like the opposition, KKR will also field an unchanged team in this game. The in-form duo comprising of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine will be opening the batting. The experienced Robin Uthappa will head the middle-order which will include Nitish Rana, skipper Dinesh Karthik and Shubman Gill. The herculean Andre Russell will play the finisher’s role, a job which he has been doing brilliantly well thus far in the season.

In the fast bowling department, Prasidh Krishna will provide company to the last game’s debutant Harry Gurney. The trio comprising of Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine will form part of the spin bowling contingent.

Probable XI: Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), Andre Russell, Shubman Gill, Harry Gurney, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.
