IPL 2019, Match 25- RR Vs CSK, Preview: Struggling Royals Seek Revival In Fortunes Against Dominant Chennai

After an intriguing encounter in Mumbai, the focus of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 carnival shifts towards the 25th game of the season, wherein Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be hosting Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 11. In the first meeting between the two teams earlier in the tournament, CSK eclipsed the Ajinkya Rahane-led team by eight runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. However, both the teams have come too far from that result. CSK currently holds the top spot on the points tally, while RR are still languishing behind at the seventh position.

RR’s backstory

The Rajasthan Royals have witnessed a disappointing run in the tournament, conceding four definite losses in five games. The biggest concern for the RR team management will be the struggling and inconsistent form of the top-order batters. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson or Steven Smith are yet to score significant knocks on a consistent basis and that has clearly not helped RR’s chances. The duo comprising of Rahul Tripathi and Ben Stokes have also failed to finish out games successfully. The RR thinktank needs to settle out these concerns pretty quickly in order revive its fortunes in IPL 2019.

Barring the duo of Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal, the rest of the bowlers have also found themselves wanting thus far in the season. Nonetheless, keeping the past aside, they would now be hoping to put forward an improved effort in order to help the team’s chances in the upcoming matches.

CSK’s backstory

The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings have experienced a fabulous journey in the T20 competition, registering five brilliant victories in six games played so far in the season. However, there are still some definite chinks in their batting which the team management will be wanting to settle out before entering their seventh game of the tournament. The experienced likes of Shane Watson and Suresh Raina are yet to announce their arrivals in IPL 2019, while Ambati Rayudu has also failed to impress with his struggling performances. Rayudu is only left with two games in his hand to seek the attention of the national selectors before the 2019 World Cup squad announcement (15th May).

However, their bowling has been very much upto the mark in this season thus far as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well. They would now be hoping to continue their good work in the upcoming games as well.

Rajasthan Royals’ likely Playing XI

The duo comprising of skipper Ajinkya Rahane and wicket-keeper Jos Buttler will be opening the batting. With no clear information on his availability status, the first centurion of IPL 2019, Sanju Samson is likely to miss this game as well. In his absence, the in-form Steven Smith will once again take up the number three position. The rest of the middle-order will include the likes of Ben Stokes, Rahul Tripathi and Prashant Chopra.

Prashant never got an opportunity to unleash his exploits in the previous match and thus, he will retain his place. The Karnataka all-rounder pair of Shreyas Gopal and Krishnappa Gowtham along with Sudhesan Midhun will handle the spin bowling duties, while Jofra Archer will partner with Dhawal Kulkarni in the pace bowling department.

Probable XI: Ajinkya Rahane (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Smith, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Prashant Chopra, Krishnappa Gowtham, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Dhawal Kulkarni, Sudhesan Midhun.

Chennai Super Kings’ likely Playing XI

The CSK team management has absolutely no major reason to tinker with the winning combination from the previous match. Thus, the likes of Shane Watson and an in-form Faf du Plessis will once again take the guard as the openers. The struggling Suresh Raina will come in at three with the likes of Ambati Rayudu, skipper MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav to follow. Rayudu will be desperately eyeing to contribute with a match-winning knock in order to come into the radar.

The visitors will once again field three spinners in Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh. The duo comprising of Deepak Chahar and Scott Kuggeleijn will take care of the fast bowling duties.

Probable XI: Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Scott Kuggeleijn, Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir.
