The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been the land of massive opportunities for both Indian as well as overseas players and the 12th edition is no different. With the 2019 World Cup just around the corner, majority of the players are using the 2019 IPL as a platform to seek the best form of preparation for the mega event set to start from May 30 in England and Wales. Veteran Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi also feels that the ongoing IPL season will help the Afghan spinners to prepare for top teams at the World Cup.
We have a good combination
All the three frontline Afghanistan spinners, Mohammad Nabi (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Rashid Khan (Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Kings XI Punjab) are doing really well in IPL 2019. Nabi who himself has been in a stunning touch this season claiming seven wickets from four games, mentioned that Afghanistan spin combination seems to be perfect one for the 50-overs World Cup. He reckoned that Mujeeb and Rashid have been great and have picked up wickets quite frequently, while he feels he is more of a containing option.
“Ours is a good combination because Rashid and Mujeeb are wicket-taking bowlers and I am more defensive, bowling a lot of dot balls,” said Mohammad Nabi.
The IPL helps a lot
Nabi reckoned that the IPL helps a lot as it is a pretty competitive tournament. He noted that playing in pressure competitions such as the IPL will help a lot in the World Cup against top opposition teams. “The IPL helps a lot. If you play these kind of pressure games before the World Cup it will help a lot in the tournament against top opposition teams,” he added.
“It is a white-ball format after all. Yes it is a change of format but you can adjust easily to the 50-over game,” the Afghanistan spin bowling all-rounder concluded.
