In the night game of the Super IPL Saturday, Delhi Capitals (DC) are scheduled to host the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi. Both the teams are coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results in their respective previous outings. While in the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the tournament, Punjab registered a sensational 14-run victory after Delhi got dealt with a monumental collapse in which they lost 7 wickets for 8 runs.
The Ravichandran Ashwin-led team is coming into this game after eclipsing Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the last match. Punjab has also witnessed similar fortunes like Delhi, recording five wins thus far in the tournament. However, the KXIP are yet to figure out definite solutions to sort out the major middle-order batting woes. The openers have given great starts in almost every game, but then the middle-order batters have always spoiled the things.
The middle-order batters definitely need to up their games in order to build on this winning momentum. While in the bowling department, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami and Murugan Ashwin have done really well this season and the rest of the bowlers have also lent their support very nicely. They will be looking to perform in the similar manner in the upcoming games of the tournament as well.
We have been okay away from home
On the eve of the game against Delhi, KXIP head coach Mike Hesson revealed that it will be important for his team to adapt to the conditions nicely. Hesson admitted the fact that they have performed decently in the away games, but have not been able to cross the finishing line. He stated that the Delhi wicket has been at the slower side this season and the KXIP team will prepare accordingly.
“For us, it is our ability to adapt to conditions. We have been okay away from home, just haven’t been across the line. The surface (at the Kotla) has been pretty consistent on how it has been on the slow side and we will prepare accordingly,” Mike Hesson was quoted as saying during the pre-match press conference.
KXIP dealt with two major blows in injuries to Moises Henriques, Varun Chakravarthy before the last game and then during the match, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman also suffered an injury. However, Hesson stated that Mujeeb has made good progress and also mentioned that a final call will be taken after final assessment.
“Mujeeb has made good progress and he will train with us and then we will decide. Moises Henriques has an injury issue. Varun too is injured and we haven’t seen the best of him this season. But you can’t have a replacement after seven games so no replacement can be asked for,” he added.
