IPL 2019, Match 50- CSK Vs DC, Preview: Top Two Finish In Focus As Shattered Chennai Gets Ready To Welcome Ecstatic Delhi

In the 50th match of the exciting Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, two of the heavyweight teams of the season in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be locking horns with the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on 1st May. Both the teams are coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results in their respective previous outings. While in the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the tournament, CSK emerged victorious with a comprehensive six-wicket victory.

CSK’s backstory

The home team, Chennai Super Kings will be entering this match after conceding a massive 46-run defeat at the hands of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the previous outing. However, the defending champions have still booked a berth in yet another IPL playoffs and would now be looking to finish as one of the top two teams which will provide them with a great advantage in the knockout stage. CSK regular skipper MS Dhoni, who is their leading run-scorer of the tournament, missed the last game and for the second successive time this season, the team looked in all sorts of dreadful waters in their bagpiper skipper’s absence.

The batters have struggled to attain consistency this season and that has taken a toll on the bowlers. However, their bowling has been very much upto the mark in this season thus far as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well. They would now be hoping to continue their good work in the upcoming games as well.

DC’s backstory

The Shreyas Iyer-led team is coming into this match after registering a brilliant 16-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last game. With this win, the Delhi-based franchisee qualified for the playoffs for the first time in six years. In the last few games, the Delhi Capitals’ batting has improved to a great extent. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant have started to peak at the right moment.

In the bowling department, Kagiso Rabada has done a fabulous job so far in the ongoing tournament. The rest of the pacers as well as the spinners have also done very well this season and thus, this is the reason that Delhi Capitals team is considered to have one of the strongest bowling line-ups in VIVO IPL 2019.

Chennai Super Kings’ likely Playing XI

The home team is expected to make some changes for this high voltage encounter. Murali Vijay will open the batting along with Shane Watson, while Faf du Plessis will once again don the bench. The struggling Suresh Raina will bat at number three position. It will be interesting to see whether the CSK team management continues to persist with Ambati Rayudu despite his consistent struggles. There could be a tossup between Rayudu and Dhruv Shorey for the number four spot.

The regular CSK skipper MS Dhoni will be making a comeback to bolster the batting department in the last home game of the season. Keeping in mind the conditions and nature of the Chennai track, CSK will once again field three spinners in Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell Santner and Imran Tahir. Deepak Chahar and Dwayne Bravo will be two pacers.

Probable XI: Murali Vijay, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Dhruv Shorey/Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Kedar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir.

Delhi Capitals’ likely Playing XI

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals will most probably go unchanged in this match unless there are some injury concerns. The duo comprising of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw will once again take the guards as the two openers. DC skipper Shreyas Iyer will head the middle-order which will include the likes of Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram. Sherfane Rutherford, who had a fantastic outing against RCB, will play the finisher’s role.

Just like the opposition, Delhi will also retain all their three spin bowling options in Sandeep Lamichhane, Axar Patel and Amit Mishra. The pair of Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada will form part of the fast bowling attack.

Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane.
