CSK Reclaim The Top Spot With A Massive Victory In The Last Home Game

In the 50th match of the intriguing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 expedition, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a resounding 80-run victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The home team reached an imposing first innings total on the back of Suresh Raina’s excellent half-century knock and some great finishing touch by the Dhoni-Jadeja combo. While in the second innings, the CSK spin pair of Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja displayed sensational combined efforts to bowl out the visitors for a paltry total and in turn steer their team to a remarkable win. With this victory, the MS Dhoni-led team have once again claimed the top spot on the points table and also ended their home season on a winning note.

Raina’s splendid fifty and Dhoni-Jadeja’s late blitz propel CSK to 179

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, CSK got off to a disappointing start as their opening batsman Shane Watson got dismissed in the fourth over with just 4 runs on the board. The duo comprising of Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina then joined hands to bail their team out of the troublesome situation. The pair of du Plessis and Raina stitched a remarkable partnership of 83 runs to solidify the innings. The latter who was highly out-of-form before this match, came back amongst the runs, notching up his 50th half-century in all of the T20 cricket.

The DC spin bowling pair of Jagadeesha Suchith and Axar Patel brought their team back in the game, dismissing both du Plessis and Raina in a space of just three overs. Towards the fag end of the innings, the duo of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja carved the Delhi bowlers spectacularly well and in almost all parts of ground to help CSK post an imposing total of 179 runs on the board . Jadeja played a vital cameo knock of 25 runs off just 10 balls, while on the other hand, Dhoni remained unbeaten till the end with a sensational innings of 44 runs which consisted of 4 fours and 3 sixes.   For Delhi, Suchith bowled really well to scalp two wickets.

Tahir and Jadeja’s brilliant spells castle DC batsmen

Chasing a stiff target of 180 runs, DC got off to a poor start with their opener Prithvi Shaw being sent back to the pavilion in the very first over of the innings. The pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer then compiled a vital partnership of 48 runs to steady the Delhi innings. But then Harbhajan Singh bowled a beautiful delivery to dismiss Dhawan in the final over of the powerplay which in turn triggered a vital batting collapse.

After Dhawan’s dismissal, the DC middle-order strangely crumbled like a pack of cards, leaving the side amidst deep troubles at 85 for 8. In a space of three to four overs, the visitors lost a massive total of seven wickets and that too for just 33 runs. The CSK spin duo comprising of Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir bowled amazingly well in tandem to rattle the opposition batsmen.

Tahir and Bravo then finished off the formalities, bowling out Delhi Capitals for a mere total of 99 runs. Shreyas Iyer was the highest run-scorer for his team with a 31-ball 43 and Dhawan scored 19 runs, while the rest of the team got dismissed for meagre single-digit scores. For CSK, Tahir was the pick of the bowlers, picking a total of four wickets, while Jadeja also bowled fabulously to claim three wickets at an impressive economy rate of 3.
