The Batting Needs To Get Better Concedes CSK Skipper MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) succumbed to a comprehensive 6-wicket defeat in the Qualifier 1 at the hands of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Chennai on Tuesday (May 7). The MI spin bowling trio of Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav and Krunal Pandya got their team off to a sensational start by picking up some crucial wickets early on in the first innings. The duo of MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu did get in a vital partnership, but in the end, CSK eventually managed to reach just a par first innings total of 131 runs.

While in the second innings, Suryakumar Yadav played a phenomenal innings of 71 runs off 54 balls under pressure to steer Mumbai towards an emphatic victory. It was Super Kings’ second loss this season at the Chepauk and both the defeats came against Mumbai. The Chennai Super Kings will now face the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Qualifier 2 on May 10, Friday in Visakhapatnam.

Things really didn't go our way

After the loss, CSK skipper MS Dhoni mentioned that the home team failed to properly assess the conditions and this hurt their chances badly. He revealed that nothing seemed to be going in their way as their batters once again struggled. Dhoni also stated that as they have played more than six games at home this season, they should have made a propel analysis of the pitch.

“Somebody has to lose, things really didn’t go our way, especially batting. At home, we had to assess the conditions quickly, we have played six to seven games on this pitch and should have read the pitch better, that’s the home advantage,” quoted MS Dhoni during the post-match presentation ceremony.

“We needed to know how the pitch behaves, would it be tacky? Is the ball coming on or not, those were the things we didn’t do well, I think the batting needs to get better,” he added.

They pull off shots that shouldn't be played

Dhoni further mentioned that the batsmen should play much more responsibly. The 37-year-old noted that these are the best and the most experienced batting group, they have got and thus, they should know to assess the conditions better. The CSK skipper is also hopeful that the batters will come good in the upcoming game.

“These are the best batsmen we have got, it looks like we are batting well, but at times, but in different games, they pull off shots that shouldn’t be played. These are the players who we have banked on, they have the experience and they should know to assess the conditions better, hopefully, we will do well in the next game,” Dhoni concluded.
