After the 2017 Champions Trophy, Indian captain Virat Kohli and the team management took a big decision to play the wrist-spin duo comprising of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the limited-overs format. Since then, both of them have delivered a number of sensational performances to help India register some memorable victories. The Kuldeep-Chahal combo is a major reason for India being counted as one of the top contenders to lift the 2019 World Cup title.
We both know each other for a long time
During a recent interview at the launch of his website, Yuzvendra Chahal opened up on his amazing pairing along with his partner in crime, Kuldeep Yadav. Chahal revealed that the duo bowl in partnerships and whoever goes first, tells the other one on which areas to target in order to trap the batsmen. Indian veteran stumper MS Dhoni has also played a significant role in the success of the Kuldeep-Chahal combo. He has been a great guiding hand sharing his insights with the spin duo.
“We bowl in partnership. If he is going first then he tells me which areas I should be looking to hit and I do the same. Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) also keeps giving his opinion. We never thought about things that we may not be able to do and just took the chance when we got it,” quoted Yuzvendra Chahal.
While talking about comparisons with the spin bowling duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, Chahal said, “It is unfair to compare us with them. I have not played with Ashwin too many times, but Jaddu pa has never shied from helping me out whenever I have asked him for tips.”
We have a number of captains
Chahal further revealed that Dhoni helps them in figuring out how the wicket would play in different conditions. The right-arm leggie also stated that in the present scenario, there are a number of captains in the team, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, who share a lot of respect amongst themselves.
“Mahi bhai helps us in figuring out how the wicket is going to play. Alongwith him there is Virat bhai and Rohit bhai (Rohit Sharma). In our team we have a number of captains and they all respect each other and that has played a big role in the success that Kuldeep and I have enjoyed,” Chahal concluded.
