Hardik Pandya is one player who has been in headlines since the start of 2019. First of all was his sexist comments of the English language talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’ that got him suspended temporarily. Since the end of the England tour last year he has been trying to get on his feet and leave all the bad spots behind of him. He resumed his game while playing some games in New Zealand but missed the home series against Australia due to his injury again.
He then got a chance to resume his explosive game in the Indian Premier League edition 2019 while playing for his franchise Mumbai Indians. Although he was down the line for his batting, he finished with a strike of 190 that was encouraging enough for the team management for the upcoming World Cup 2019 starting from May 30. He was able to give a tight slap to everyone who still judged him with his TV controversy. He ended his IPL 2019 with a 400 plus score in 16 matches and 14 wickets in hand.
He handled the phase really well says Rhodes
The same is reckoned by the MI’s former coach Jonty Rhodes who said that he has an enormous amount of hunger for scoring runs ns this will help him in making a successful future ahead. “He is a player with enormous hunger. I remember when his brother Krunal burst into the scene, Hardik got dropped. I told him that this was going to be his biggest test. It’s not about bowling a superb bouncer or hitting sixes to finish off games. I told him ‘if you can bounce back after your brother has taken your place in the side, especially since you are seen as the rockstar of Mumbai Indians, then nothing like it’. He handled the phase really well,” says Rhodes.
When the crowd gets going, it’s hard to keep your mind in the game sometimes
Rhodes further said that he was worried with Hardik’s level of dedication as he would lose focus easily but Pandya proved him wrong. “As a fielding coach, I was worried about Hardik’s focus. He came across as someone who would take a selfie with a guy or a girl in the stands. Or someone who is worried about his hat or hair. When the crowd gets going, it’s hard to keep your mind in the game sometimes.”
Rhodes further said that he could have been ruined by distractions but then he called him a sensible boy from a sensible family. With the mature player that he has become, he will surely wow us all in the upcoming World Cup 2019.
