Shoaib Akhtar Takes A Dig At Sarfaraz Ahmed For Pakistan’s Massive Loss To Windies

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has slammed Sarfaraz Ahmed following the Men in Green slumped to a crushing 7-wicket defeat at the hands of Windies in their opening World Cup clash on Friday. Nothing much went Pakistan’s way throughout the game after Windies skipper Jason Holder won the toss and invited his opposition to bat first at Trent Bridge. At a venue where the average score in recent times is more than 300 runs, Pakistan batsmen performed miserably against the Caribbean pacers.

Pakistan lost all of their ten wickets to pacers as they managed just a paltry total of 105 in 21.4 overs, Pakistan’s second-lowest total in World Cup history. West Indies pacers attacked Pakistan batsmen with short balls and the plan worked very well. Pacer Oshane Thomas was the most successful bowler as he picked up 4 for 27. Jason Holder and Andre Russell picked up three and two wickets respectively. Only two Pakistan batsmen passed 20 with 22 being the highest individual score in the dismal batting show.

The score was never going to challenge the Caribbean outfit and Chris Gayle made sure that Pakistan do not get any chance of making a contest out of the match. Mohammad Amir threatened to challenge Windies by picking up three wickets but Gayle smashed 50 from just 34 to put the game to the bed. Nicholas Pooran closed the proceedings by smashing a huge six as Caribbeans sealed the game with 36.1 overs remaining. The loss was Pakistan’s eleventh consecutive defeat in One-Day Internationals.

Akhtar critical of Sarfaraz

Following the game, Shoaib Akhtar came down hard on Sarfaraz Ahmed, slamming the Pakistan skipper for his fitness. In a video that is going viral on social media, Akhtar could be seen criticizing Sarfaraz’s fat belly and cheeks as he called the Pakistan skipper unfit.

“When Sarfaraz Ahmed came for the toss, his stomach was sticking out and his face was so fat. He’s the first captain I’ve seen who is so unfit. He’s not able to move across and he’s struggling with wicket-keeping.”
