World Cup 2019: Yuvraj Singh Picks Rohit Sharma As The Player Of The Tournament

“The Indian opener has notched up two match-winning hundreds in the tournament thus far.”

Indian senior opener Rohit Sharma has been in a staggering form in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. He didn’t have the best of outings in the warm-up matches and was looking a tad out of touch but has come to his own in the main round. The 32-year-old started with a match-winning century against South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton and helped his team to a six-wicket victory.

Thereafter, he failed to perform against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. However, he came was back to his best in the marquee clash against Pakistan at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The Nagpur-born batsman went on to notch his 24th ODI century. He picked a single off leg-spinner Shadab Khan to accomplish the milestone off 85 balls in the 30th over of the Indian innings.

He continued to play his shots after the hundred and was eventually dismissed on 140 off 113 balls – his knock was laced with 14 boundaries and three sixes. The right-handed batsman fell prey to Hasan Ali while attempting a scoop over short fine-leg where Wahab Riaz took a simple catch. His fabulous innings laid a solid platform for India to reach a huge total of 336 runs in 50 overs. Yuvraj Singh, who retired from international cricket a few days ago, had something to share about Rohit’s masterful knock.

Yuvraj Singh predicts Rohit’s future

Yuvraj talked about his interaction with Rohit during the 2019 IPL. In the T20 tournament, Yuvraj played under Rohit’s leadership after being picked by the Mumbai Indians. When his skipper wasn’t getting the big scores, Yuvi went and motivated him with some words of wisdom.

The 37-year-old all-rounder has now predicted Rohit to be the Player of the Tournament for the World Cup. He also went down the memory lane and remembered how the legendary Sachin Tendulkar boosted his confidence before the 2011 World Cup. Yuvraj had ended up as the Player of the Tournament for his all-round show in the Indian team’s victorious campaign.

Yuvraj took to Twitter and wrote, “Chatting to Rohit at ipl time ! Discussion about getting starts but not getting big runs , and I was like you don’t know what lies ahead of you it’s happening for a reason ! Same words told to me by @sachin_rt before 2011 wcup , my mos of 2019 prediction from india @ImRo45,”
