After winning against India, England has kept its game strong in turn letting people know that they have the power of redefining their World Cup glory as well. The same is being reckoned by Eoin Morgan who says that England can achieve all their dreams of World Cup glory as long as they stick to their A game, after defeating India and keeping the hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive. The team came back into their form on Sunday at Edgbaston, after they lost successive matches against Sri Lanka and Australia.
If we were scraping along I wouldn’t be as confident
England started their World Cup campaign as the top contenders on the ICC points table but then plundered into defeats after siding to a 31-run win against India on Sunday. India on the other hand, handled their first defeat in the World Cup after winning five out of seven matches wherein one of them wasn’t conducted due to the rain.
The England win came after Jonny Bairstow scored 111 runs along with Jason Roy who scored 66 runs. The duo shared the first wicket stand of 160 runs, which is the highest opening partnership of this World Cup 2019. The England score was spiced up by brisk runs of 79 runs that aided in the team pilling up 337 runs for 7 wickets after winning the toss. Indian went forth to lose their first match in the World Cup by 31 runs, something that ended their streak on the winning pitches.
The closer we get to playing our A-game, the more chance we have of going all the way
Talking about the same, Eoin Morgan says that he is happy about the team making it tough on the pitches as well. “The manner in which we played today was outstanding and resonates with everyone in the dressing room. It’s come at a good time against a really good team. The closer we get to playing our A-game, the more chance we have of going all the way. If we were scraping along I wouldn’t be as confident,” said Morgan.
