India’s unbeaten knock in the World Cup was ended by England and their massive run score of 337 runs that led India to lose the match by 31 runs on Sunday at Edgbaston in Birmingham. With this win against India, England moved ahead of the points table from Pakistan with 10 points earned from 8 matches. India now remains at the second spot behind Australia with 11 points from seven matches.
While chasing the score raised by England, India lost KL Rahul for duck after playing nine balls, a good partnership between Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli which brought back the hopes of winning the match against England. India could only manage to add 39 runs from the final five overs as they lost the match by 31 runs. The most surprising thing about the Indian team was MS Dhoni’s and Kedar Jadhav’s batting that dealt only with singles.
It’s up to discussions with the two guys who were in there
Talking about the same, the captain of the Indian team, Kohli said that they were trying really hard to cross a boundary but they were unable to do so. “It’s up to discussions with the two guys who were in there. I think MS was trying really hard to get the boundary, but it wasn’t coming off. They bowled in good areas and the ball was stopping, hence it was difficult to bat towards the end. We have to sit and assess and improve on things in the next game,” said Kohli.
The toss was vital, especially looking at the boundaries that are this short
He further talked about the match in the post-match conference saying that there are several things which are critical to a match like the pitch. “The toss wasn’t a massive factor, but we weren’t clinical with the bat I suppose because the wicket was flat. We should have accelerated and gotten closer, but they bowled superbly,” said Kohli.
He further said that the toss was a vital factor owing to the fact that the boundaries were very short. “The toss was vital, especially looking at the boundaries that are this short. Bizarre that it just falls in place with the boundary limitations and with a flat pitch such as this. It’s crazy that things fall in place like that randomly. It’s the first time we are experiencing this,” said Kohli.
