Rohit And Bumrah’s Sensational Efforts Helps India Seal Semis Berth

India have staged a definite fightback after the comprehensive loss to England, registering a 28-run victory over Bangladesh at the Edgbaston, Birmingham. India were initially on course to a massive first innings total riding on Rohit Sharma’s superb century and KL Rahul’s fine half-century innings. But then Mustafizur Rahman bowled amazingly well in his final spell picking up a sensational five-wicket haul to restrict India much earlier than expected.

In the second innings, Bangladesh did manage to show some amount of fight but the target was always expected to be a difficult task for them. The Bangladeshi batters tried really hard but the duo of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah’s excellent efforts with the ball helped India successfully book a berth in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Rohit's sensational century lifts India to 314

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Indian team got off to a sensational opening start as the two openers, KL Rahul and the in-form Rohit Sharma started things on a aggressive note from the word go. The duo batted amazingly well to stitch a fabulous partnership of 180 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit notched up his fourth century of the tournament during the partnership, scoring a massive knock of 104 runs off 92 balls. 

After his dismissal, Rahul also got out pretty soon failing to convert yet another brilliant start of 77 runs into a bigger score. The pair of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya also got dismissed pretty early, leaving India at 237 for 4. Rishabh Pant then played a vital innings of 48 runs off 41 balls before falling victim to playing another poor shot. Mustafizur Rahman bowled a fabulous spell in the last few overs picking up an outstanding five-wicket haul to restrict India to 314 in 50 overs. 

Bumrah and Pandya’s brilliant spells restricts Bangladesh

Chasing a daunting target of 315 runs, Bangladesh got off to a poor start losing the early wicket of Tamim Iqbal in the 10th over with just 39 runs on the scoreboard. The pair of Soumya Sarkar and Shakib Al Hasan then tried to do the repair work before Hardik Pandya removed the former in the 16th over. Mushfiqur Rahim also failed to convert hi start of 24 runs into a bigger score, while Shakib on the other end, notched up another fifty.

Pandya kept picking crucial wickets at regular intervals to leave Bangladesh in a spot of bother at 179 for 6 with Shakib back into the pavilion. After Shakib’s wicket in the 34th over scoring 66 runs off 74 balls, the duo of Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin did stitch a vital stand of 66 runs before the former got out leaving Bangladesh again in trouble. Towards the end, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a fabulous spell to bowl out Bangladesh for 286 runs in 48 overs. For India, Bumrah finished with crucial scalps, while Pandya picked up three wickets.
