Vijay’s 81 Goes In Vain As Karaikudi Kaalai Win The Super Over

In the second match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019, the Karaikudi Kaalai emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against the Ruby Trichy Warriors at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul. The crowd witnessed a nail-biting game which went right towards the Super Over finish. In the end, Karaikudi Kaalai’s skipper Srikkanth Anirudha smacked two remarkable sixes to help his team register an emphatic victory.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat first, Karaikudi Kaalai got off to a disappointing start losing the wicket of opening batsman V Aditya in just the first over of the innings. L Suryaprakash, who came out to bat at number three, also got out pretty soon leaving his team in trouble at 31 for 2. The duo comprising of skipper Srikkanth Anirudha and Rajhamany Srinivasan then got together to resurrect the troublesome innings and stitched a vital partnership of 57 runs.

The Karaikudi captain Anirudha led his team from the front with a significant knock of 58 runs off 36 balls that included seven fours and three sixes. Towards the end, Srinivasan and Maan Bafna contributed with pretty useful cameo innings to help the Karaikudi Kaalai team finish with an imposing total of 171 runs on the scoreboard. For the Warriors, Saravan Kumar picked up three scalps, while Vignesh and Kishore took a wicket each.

Vijay’s amazing blitz takes the match towards Super Over finish

Chasing a big target of 172 runs, Trichy Warriors also didn’t get off to the best of starts as their opener S Aravind got dismissed quite early with just 20 runs on the board. Right-arm fast bowler R Rajkumar then removed Aditya Barooah in the seventh over. After the fall of three early wickets, the pair of Murali Vijay and Chandrasekar Ganapathy joined hands to bail their team out of the troublesome situation.

Vijay, who started his innings on a tentative note, got settled at the crease and then started to play attacking cricket. Vijay played an incredible innings of 81 runs off just 56 balls that consisted of seven fours and three sixes and also stitched an important stand of 77 runs along with Ganapathy to help his team get in a good position in the game. With 11 runs needed off the final over, the Warriors’ batters made 10 runs off the six deliveries that resulted in the game ending as a tie and now the proceedings shifted towards the Super Over.

Anirudha finishes the proceedings with two brilliant hits

While batting first in the one-over eliminator, Ruby Trichy Warriors scored 11 runs for the loss of two wickets, with Vijay smashing all those runs. However, in the second batting, Anirudha smashed two brilliant sixes to help his team get over the line with two balls to spare.
