TNPL 2019, Match8- TP Vs LKK, Preview: Ecstatic Kings Chase Second Win Against The Patriots

In the eighth match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019 edition, the TUTI Patriots (TP) will be fighting against the Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul on July 25, Thursday. Both the teams are coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results unfold in their respective previous outings. While the Patriots lost their opening game to the Madurai Panthers, the Kings brushed aside the VB Kanchi Veerans. The Kovai Kings have a decent squad and they will be looking to continue their winning momentum.

Patriots, on the other hand, are missing their captain Washington Sundar who missed the first match as he was playing in West Indies for India A. He has been picked in India’s T20I squad as well against the Windies and the series starts on August 3. It is still unknown if he has returned home and if at all, he will play in the TNPL this season.

Head to Head Battle

TUTI Patriots

Lyca Kovai Kings

TUTI Patriots likely Playing XI

TUTI Patriots need more runs in their middle order, though they do have the players to provide that. They brought in nine players in the draft and, having started three last time out, more could feature this time. Washington Sundar is currently away with India, however, which does leave them without one of their key men. Akshay Srinivasan set the tempo with 55 from 41 balls at the top of the order last time out, but his dismissal was typical of the frustrations the Patriots endured in the middle overs.

Nevertheless, the form was clearly there early on. Subramania Siva is the captain in place of Washington Sundar, his 74-run partnership with Srinivasan had the Patriots well placed at the halfway stage. His dismissal sparked a poor finish to the innings, however.

M Ganesh Moorthi is the only Patriots bowler to take a wicket last time out, but he was also economical with his left-arm spin and it will be interesting to see if he can be as tight with a bigger target to defend.

Probable XI: Akshay Srinivasan, Wilkinson Victor (wk), Subramania Siva (c), S Nathan, Shubham Mehta, Vasanth Saravanan, R Karthikeyan, Ganesh Moorthi, Sathya Raj, S Boopalan, Tamil Kumaran.

Lyca Kovai Kings likely Playing XI

Kovai Kings were in dominant form in their opening game of the tournament, with only wicket-keeper-batsman Ranjan Paul falling short as he was dismissed cheaply. The team is likely to be unchanged as a result. Abhinav Mukund after good first-class form with Tamil Nadu, the Kovai Kings’ captain picked up where he left off as he hit 12 fours on his way to an unbeaten 70 from 44 balls in the opening game.

Shahrukh Khan was the Kovai Kings’ top run-scorer last season was back to his explosive best in the opening game of this year’s tournament too. He hit 40 from 21 balls in an 84-run opening partnership to set the tone for a comfortable win. Thangarasu Natarajan last year, he took 12 wickets and conceded at less than six an over. Already this season he has taken 2-21 from the four overs he has bowled with left-arm medium pace.

Probable XI: Shahrukh Khan, Abhinav Mukund (c), Ranjan Paul (wk), Anirudh Sita Ram, Akkil Srinaath, S Manigandan, Ajith Ram, Malolan Rangarajan, Anthony Das, Thangarasu Natarajan, Kishnamoorthy Vignesh.
