In the first double-header Sunday of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019 edition, the Madurai Panthers (MP) will be locking horns with the VB Kanchi Veerans (VBKV) at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. Both the teams are coming into this game after witnessing contrasting results unfold in their respective previous outings. After the impressive win against the TUTI Patriots in the first game, the Madurai Panthers faltered in their second match.
Against the Dindigul Dragons, they fell short of the target by 30 runs while chasing. Thus, the team has got two points to its tally at the end of two games. However, the Veerans will be massively high on confidence after the performance they put up in the previous match.
They registered the third biggest victory in terms of runs in the history of TNPL when they defeated Karaikudi Kaalai by 110 runs. The Baba Aparajith-led team will look for another win of that sorts to yet again assert their dominance in the tournament.
Head to Head Battle
VB Kanchi Veerans
Madurai Panthers likely Playing XI
After Jabez Moses came in for some punishment with the ball last time out, he could make way again for Lokesh Raj. Moses was the only player to come in from the opening win. Skipper KB Arun Karthik led from the front in the opening game, hitting 65 from 42 balls at the top of the order as the Madurai Panthers got off to a winning start. He added another 24 runs last time to prove he is in good touch.
L Kiran Akash has been in good form so far, taking 3-16 in the opening game and 2-33 in the second. That is already as many wickets as the 22-year-old managed in last season’s tournament. R Mithun claimed 3-17 in the opening game and then showed his big-hitting capabilities with the bat last time as he blasted a quick-fire 20 in a losing cause.
Probable XI: Arun Karthik (c), Sarath Raj, Nilesh Subramanian (wk), Shijit Chandran, Jagatheesan Kousik, Akash Sumra, Abhishek Tanwar, R Mithun, Kiran Akash, Lokesh Raj, Rahil Shah.
VB Kanchi Veerans likely Playing XI
K Gowtham Thamarai made his first appearance last time out, replacing S Arun in the only change from the defeat to Lyca Kovai Kings. Rajagopal Sathish showed every bit of his experience when he scored an unbeaten 31 with the bat and then claimed 4-17 with the ball in the win against Karaikudi Kaalai last time out.
R Sanjay Yadav was pushed up the order after scoring 31 from 23 balls in the first game and responded by hitting seven fours and six sixes on his way to 95 from 60 balls.
