TNPL 2019, Match13- CSG vs LKK, Preview: Ecstatic teams go up against each other in Tirunelveli

In the second match lined up for the exciting double-header Sunday of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019, Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) will be taking on the Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. Both the teams are coming into this game pretty much high on confidence as they have recorded convincing victories in their respective previous outings.

After the disastrous season last year, the Gillies have turned things around quite nicely this time around. Out of the three games that the team played thus far, they won two and seem to be in good form. The team will like to get over the line as many times as possible in the remaining games.

The Lyca Kovai Kings, though, could be fatigued a bit as they will be playing games of cricket on back-to-back days. In less than 24 hours after playing the Ruby Trichy Warriors, they will up against another strong opposition. However, since they will get a small break after this game, the players should look to play with the same kind of intensity.

Head to Head Battle

Chepauk Super Gillies likely Playing XI

A reshuffle of the batting order for the Chepauk Super Gillies paid rich dividiends in the previous match. Ganga Sridhar Raju and Gopinath opened the batting as Kaushik Gandhi dropped to number three. Both the openers got a fifty while Kaushik Gandhi also finally scored some runs getting an attractive 32 off just 21 balls. There was nothing much to follow after these three as all the batsmen scored a handful of runs but it still allowed the Super Gillies to reach 175.

This batting line-up is going to be tested by the Lyca Kovai Kings bowling a couple of early wickets and we could see the Chepauk Super Gillies collapse like a house of cards. The bowling for the Super Gillies has been decent. R Alexander, G Periyaswamy, and Murugan Ashwin are the names that come to mind immediately. The consistency of the spinners and the nagging line and length bowled Periyaswamy make the Chepauk Super Gillies a good opponent, no matter what the score they are defending. Vijay Shankar isn’t fit to play in this match but if he does become available to play, it is going to be a huge boost for the side.

Probable XI: Kaushik Gandhi (c), Ganga Sridhar Raju, Gopinath, A Aarif (wk), Uthirasamy Sasidev, Murugan Ashwin, M Siddharth, S Harish Kumar, D Rahul, G Periyaswamy, R Alexander.

Lyca Kovai Kings likely Playing XI

A solid win for the Lyca Kovai Kings just a few hours before they take on the Chepauk Super Gillies is going to test their fitness. T Natrajan picked up four wickets and bowled the best we have seen so far this season to lead his side to victory. The Lyca Kovai Kings were defending just 161, a good total but not a guaranteed winning score by far, and needed their bowling to be at its best. K Vignesh, Antony Dhas, Ajith Ram, and the rest all contributed to give the Lyca Kovai Kings this victory.

The batting is a bit of a concern. For the second match running, the top-order was unable to do anything special and it was the players batting lower down that came up with some useful contributions. Players like Abhinav Mukund, Shahrukh Khan, and B Anirudh Sita Ram need to take more responsibility and help put big totals on the board consistently.

The Lyca Kovai Kings are a very good side and is playing very good cricket at the moment. We like the fact that most of its players are contributing and they seem to be less dependent on a few individuals playing brilliantly than some of the other teams in the TNPL.

Probable XI: Shahrukh Khan, Abhinav Mukund (c), B Anirudh Sita Ram, Akkil Srinaath, S Manigandan, Pradosh Ranjan Paul (wk), Malolan Rangarajan, Antony Dhas, Jaganath Srinivas, T Natarajan, Krishnamoorthy Vignesh.
