Silambarasan’s Sensational Five-Wicket Haul Rattles The Madurai Panthers

In the 12th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019 edition, VB Kanchi Veerans recorded a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over the Madurai Panthers at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. Veerans’ medium-pacer R Silambarasan was the star performer in the game as he bowled a magnificent spell to pick up a sensational five-wicket haul. In the second innings, Suresh Lokeshwar smashed a vital fifty to guide his team over the line.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Madurai Panthers got off to a poor start losing the wicket of opening batsman Arun Karthik in just the second over of the game. The pair of A Sarath Raj and skipper Shijit Chandran then settled down things for a while with a brief stand of 40 runs for the second wicket. Sarath got out in the eighth over and Shijit stitched another short partnership along with J Kousik.

The skipper fell in the 13th over after scoring 39 runs off 36 balls that included six boundaries. Kanchi Veerans medium-pacer R Silambarasan bowled a fabulous spell to rattle the Panthers quite early in the game. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals after that as none of the batters took the responsibility to lead the Panthers’ innings.

Eventually, the Panthers managed to put on just 138 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. For the Veerans, Silambarasan picked up a brilliant five-wicket haul, while Rajagopal Sathish finished with two vital scalps.

Lokeshwar and Aparajith’s excellent stand leads the Veerans

Chasing a modest target of 134 runs in the second innings, Kanchi Veerans also didn’t get off to the best of starts as they lost their opening wicket of K Vishal Vaidhya with just seven runs on the board. The other opener, S Siddharth, also failed to contribute much with the bat, leaving his team in a spot of bother at 32 for 2. The duo of Baba Aparajith and Suresh Lokeshwar then got together to bail their team out of the troublesome situation.

They stitched an impressive partnership of 80 runs before skipper Aparajith got dismissed after scoring 44 runs. However, before getting out, he had already put his team in a strong position in the chase. Lokeshwar kept batting nicely at the other end and smashed an excellent half-century to help his team cross the finishing line with six balls to spare. Rajagopal Sathish also remained unbeaten at 22 runs off 11 balls.
