There was no Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav or Wriddhiman Saha in India’s playing XI for the first Test against Windies. Sunil Gavaskar was astonished at the axing of Ashwin, who has scored 552 runs with four hundreds and has taken 60 wickets against the Caribbean side.
India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was the standout performer, having scored 81 runs on Day1 against Windies. He was asked a question by a journalist on missing out on a century. Rahane answered it saying that he isn’t someone ‘selfish’ and plays for the team.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma were the notable omissions when India announced their playing XI for the first Test against Windies. Ajinkya Rahane mentioned that it was a decision purely taken as per the combination of the team by the captain and head coach.

In the absence of Steve Smith, the way Australia collapsed showed it all. For England, Jofra Archer was the man with a spectacular six-wicket haul in just his second Test match. From 136/2 at one stage, Australia was bowled out for 179 which was highly disappointing.
A 19-year-old has been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad after he threatened to kill the players of Indian team. The accused has been identified as Brij Mohan Das, who had sent the horrific email to the BCCI. Investigations also revealed that he had sent the emails to other boards.
Shoaib Akhtar wants Rohit Sharma to play the series opener in Antigua and believes the Indian limited-overs vice-captain could be the match-winner in Tests as well. Akhtar realises that Rohit has been given chances before but wants him to play based on current form.
Recently, Mohammad Amir announced retirement from Test cricket in order to completely focus on ODIs and T20Is. Shoaib Akhtar is certainly not amused by the decision, but still mentioned, “Amir should reconsider his decision to come out of retirement and play for Pakistan because the country needs him.”
