Virat Kohli-led Indian team continued its domination in the longest format of the game as they defeated South Africa by an innings and 137 runs in the second Test match in Pune. With this victory, India gained 40 crucial points and increased their tally to a total of 200 points in the World Test Championship. India took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match Test series against the Proteas.
India also took over Australia’s world record of most consecutive Test series wins at home as they recorded their 11th consecutive Test series victory. The Indian Test team also became the first side to reach the 200 points mark in the World Test Championship and now they have 140 point lead over second placed New Zealand in the points table.
Both New Zealand and Sri Lanka have 60 points each at second and third positions respectively. After an exciting and intense 2019 Ashes series, Australia and England ended with 56 points each. West Indies and South Africa are yet to open their account of wins as they have lost both of their matches so far. On the other hand, the likes of Pakistan and Bangladesh haven’t played a single game in the World Test Championship.
