On the back of stand-in captain Rohit Sharma’s sensational 85-run innings, India levelled the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. In the chase of 154 runs, Rohit stitched an explosive partnership of 118 runs along with Shikhar Dhawan for the opening wicket that reduced the game to mere formalities. During the 85-run knock, Rohit smacked six sixes and it was the fourth time when he striked five or more sixes in a T20I match.
Rohit’s record-breaking numbers
This was Rohit’s sixth fifty-plus score as captain in the T20I format and that is the joint-most for an Indian skipper along with regular captain Virat Kohli. Apart from Rohit and Virat, Faf du Plessis and Kane Williamson have racked up eight and seven fifty-plus scores respectively as captain. The right-hander scored his half-century off just 23 balls that is the joint-quickest for an Indian captain.
Rohit’s match-winning knock is now the highest individual score while chasing in a T20I match by an Indian captain. He went ahead of Virat Kohli’s 82-run innings scored against Sri Lanka in 2017. After Shoaib Malik, Rohit became the only 2nd player to achieve the feat of 100 T20I matches in Men’s T20I cricket.
Rohit Sharma has now smashed a total number of 37 sixes in 17 T20Is while captaining the national team. He surpassed former Indian captain MS Dhoni’s record of 34 sixes. Alongside Virat, Rohit now has the joint-most (22) fifty-plus scores for any player. With an amazing 118-run opening partnership with Shikhar, Rohit became the first player in T20I history to be involved in 10 different century partnerships.
