Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, Indian fast bowlers have surely excelled and contributed with their highest of abilities in the recent two years. India currently has a great crop of fast bowlers that can rattle even the best of batting line-ups in any type of conditions. After being left out of the playing XI for many Test matches, Umesh Yadav made a remarkable comeback in the recent games at home.
In the last four Test matches, Umesh has picked up a total of 23 wickets at an excellent average of 13.65 that includes a stunning five-wicket haul in India’s first-ever day-night Test match. The speedster currently has the highest average among the bowlers who have played atleast four Tests in the ICC World Test Championship. Apart from his brilliant bowling performances, Umesh has also been contributing really well with the bat lower down the order.
During a recent interview, Virat mentioned that in case Hardik Pandya is not fit to play as an all-rounder in overseas Test matches, he can still go with the combination of five specialist bowlers. Virat said that one spinner out of Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav contributing with the bat gives him immense confidence as a captain.
“If say Hardik is not fit as an all-rounder to play overseas, even if you play with five bowlers and just one spinner plays, you know as a batting unit, along with a keeper, and that one spinner either Ash (Ashwin) or Jaddu (Jadeja) ever plays, your batting till seven and then Umesh the way he is batting now, he can probably bat at No.3 as well as a pinch hitter (chuckles),” mentioned Virat Kohli.
