Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) recorded a comprehensive 5-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Thursday. The SRH bowlers displayed a sensational combined effort to rattle the opposition batsmen under a pretty thin first innings total. While in the second innings, Jonny Bairstow set the tone with an excellent quick-fire innings to help his team take an early advantage in the run-chase, after which the rest of the batters finished off the formalities with pretty much ease to bring up a great win. With that splendid victory, the Sunrisers have claimed the top position on the points table.
There was a little less bounce
Bairstow scored a significant knock of 48 runs off just 28 balls which consisted of 9 fours and 1 six and he was also adjudged as the Man of the Match. Bairstow revealed that the bounce on the Delhi wicket was a little less than the Hyderabad track. He reckoned that winning the toss proved to be quite crucial for them. He mentioned that batting was easier during the second innings as compared to the first innings.
“There was a little less bounce than what we had in Hyderabad and you could see that with the wear and tear of the pitch. It was a good toss to win because you could see it was good to bat second because you saw what you needed to do,” quoted Jonny Bairstow.
Bairstow stated that his bowlers gave him some valuable insights about the conditions and how much the ball was turning. However, he also mentioned that every bowler has different ways of reading the conditions.
“When the bowlers are bowling, they tell you that this boundary is shorter and it is turning from which part. But at the same time the bowlers are different on both sides. Our guys are shorter and they have much taller guys, so you can only react to the situation,” he added.
Really pleased with the start
Sunrisers recorded its third successive win in the tournament last night. The SRH wicket-keeper batsman revealed that it is very important for them to keep playing the same brand of cricket in the upcoming matches as well. “Really pleased with the start, we have three games in quick succession and we need to keep playing the brand of cricket that we’ve been playing. We have a great group of guys in the side and we all play in the same fashion,” concluded Bairstow.
