Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell once again lightened up the IPL 2019 carnival with some astonishing power-hitting against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The big West Indian blasted a belligerent knock of 48 runs off just 13 balls which consisted of 7 monstrous sixes to snatch an unbelievable 5-wicket victory from the jaws of defeat. With that splendid win, the Dinesh Karthik-led team climbed to the second spot on the points tally.
We trust him as a player
After the game, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik praised Russell for his astounding knock and mentioned that those kinds of performances don’t need much of talking. Karthik noted that it was very important to provide Russell with an environment where he can play his natural game. He also admitted that it was difficult to play spinners on that Bengaluru track as compared to hitting against the faster bowlers.
“Those kind of knocks, you don’t talk much. We trust him as a player. It’s important to give him an atmosphere where he’s happy and he just keeps performing. Yes, it was hard to play strokes against spinners with the ball gripping but was easier against the fast bowlers,” quoted Dinesh Karthik during the post-match presentation ceremony.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, RCB posted a mammoth total of 205 runs on the back of phenomenal knocks from both Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. The two heavyweight RCB batters entertained the home crowd with some astounding and power-packed hitting. In the second innings, Chris Lynn came back amongst the runs with a quick-fire 31-ball 43.
Karthik further stated that his bowlers need to up their game in order to lend some support to the batters. “I think as much as well he batted, it’s time we all started to bowl better and help the batters. It was nice to see Lynn bat like that and take responsibility,” the KKR skipper added.
He keeps lifting his game
Lynn also noted that it is just unbelievable to watch Russell bail the team out of extreme troublesome situations on consistent basis. He accepted the fact that the visitors dropped too many chances on the field. “We keep putting him in tough situations and he keeps lifting his game. He is just too good. Two-hundred and fifteen was probably par on that wicket. Both teams gave opportunities. We dropped Kohli and AB de Villiers and RCB also dropped a couple of chances. Luck was on our side. Change of fortune for us. It is unbelievable and entertaining for us. He keeps doing it. He is a billion dollar man for KKR,” Chris Lynn was quoted as saying.
