IPL 2019, Match 22- KXIP Vs SRH, Preview: Hurt Sunrisers Ready To Conquer Punjab’s Fortress

After two fascinating double-header days, the focus now shifts normalisation wherein Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will be hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on April 8. Both the teams will be coming into this game after conceding clinical losses in their respective previous outings and thus, both of them will be eager to come back to winning ways. The Ravichandran Ashwin-led team has had a mixed flavoured IPL season this year, conceding two terrible losses and three oozing victories as well. While the visiting Hyderabad team have experienced a great run in the tournament, registering three massive victories and losing two close encounters.

KXIP’s backstory

The hosts will be entering this game after a pretty confused approach followed by KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan during the run-chase in the previous match. The duo never showed any sort of intent to accelerate the innings and as a result, the side crumbled to a convincing loss in a low-scoring encounter. The batters’ consistency is the biggest concern for the KXIP thinktank. The likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and David Miller have played one or two significant innings but besides that, they have failed to show some sort of consistency.

However, their bowling has been upto the mark in this season thus far as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well. They would now be hoping to continue their good work in the upcoming games as well.

SRH’s backstory

The previous game against Mumbai, the Sunrisers witnessed the feeling of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow loneliness for the first time this season. The in-form opening duo got dismissed early and the middle-order got exposed quite early in the game. The middle-order batters failed to tackle the pressure inflicted by debutant fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and collapsed miserably while chasing a thin target of 137 runs. The likes of Vijay Shankar, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda and Yusuf Pathan have not received many opportunities to play any big innings this season and this is definitely adding to their miseries.

The SRH bowlers have done remarkably well in the first half of every game, but their death bowling woes have allowed the oppositions to seize the initiative during the penultimate overs. The team management needs to find out some definite solutions to sort out its death bowling issues on a quick basis.

Head to Head Battle

Overall (12)

At the PCA Stadium (5)

Kings XI Punjab’s likely Playing XI

The opening duo comprising of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle will be hoping to provide the team with an explosive start, something they did consistently last year. Mayank Agarwal will take up the crucial number three slot. The rest of the middle-order batters will be Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller and Mandeep Singh. Their batting will be decided in accordance with the situation of the match.

The likes of Mohammed Shami, Andrew Tye and Sam Curran leaked too many runs in a low-scoring encounter in the previous outing, but they will retain their respective slots and will form part of the fast bowling department. KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin will take care of the spin bowling duties along with his partner in crime, Murugan Ashwin.

Probable XI: KL Rahul (wk), Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Andrew Tye, Murugan Ashwin.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s likely Playing XI

Even after a heartening loss in the previous game, the Sunrisers will most probably field an unchanged team in this game as well. The blistering pair of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner will be opening the batting. With no clarity on his availability and also the rest of the overseas players performing brilliantly, regular skipper Kane Williamson will once again sit out and thus, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be leading the side in the capacity of a stand-in skipper. Vijay Shankar will lead the middle-order which will include the likes of Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda and Yusuf Pathan.

In the fast bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will partner with Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma. The two Afghanistan teammates, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi will be the two spinners.

Probable XI: David Warner, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Vijay Shankar, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Yusuf Pathan, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (c), Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul.
