In a major revelation, it is being reported that the MSK Prasad-led national selection committee are scheduled to meet on April 15 in Mumbai in order to pick the Indian 15-member World Cup squad. The upcoming 2019 World Cup will be starting from 30th May with the opening game between hosts England and South Africa in London. India has already finished its quota of international games before the all-important 50-overs mega event and will be kicking off its World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5 in Southampton.
Earlier the International Cricket Council (ICC) had announced that the cut-off date to name the World Cup squad is April 23. It is being speculated that the selectors have been monitoring the players’ performance in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), in order to figure out the best possible choices for the remaining spots.
The selectors wanted to take it easy
Recently a senior BCCI official revealed that the selectors wanted to take things easy as they had enough time to announce the final World Cup squad. The official also stated that it is very important to watch how the players are performing in such tournaments. “The selectors wanted to take it easy as they had time till April 23 to send in the squad for the World Cup. With the IPL on, it always helps to see how some of the boys are playing,” quoted a senior BCCI official.
We will definitely win the World Cup
During a recent interview, chief selector MSK Prasad mentioned that the committee is confident of revealing a good team. Despite the recent limited-overs defeat against Australia at home, the chief selector feels that India will surely bring the prestigious World Cup title back home this time.
“I am confident that we are going to announce a good team. We have worked on this for almost one and a half years. We have observed all the players, tested good combinations. We are confident that the team we will announce will definitely win the World Cup to be held in England in 2019,” said MSK Prasad.
