MSK Prasad Admits IPL Performance Would Not Affect World Cup Squad Selection

Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has made a startling revelation ahead of the 2019 World Cup squad announcement, which is scheduled to be picked on April 15. MSK Prasad revealed that the performances in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will not make any major effect in finalizing the 15-member squad for the mega event. There are still some definite spots which are up for grabs and many reckoned that the players’ will make their mark in IPL 2019 in order to come in the contention.

“The selectors wanted to take it easy as they had time till April 23 to send in the squad for the World Cup. With the IPL on, it always helps to see how some of the boys are playing,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying.

I don’t think we are looking at IPL showing

Prasad mentioned that the selection committee is not looking at the IPL performances in consideration for the World Cup squad selection. He noted that the selectors are quite clear about the team selections and their attentions would not be diverted by any standout individual performances in IPL 2019.

“No I don’t think we are looking at IPL showing. No, not really. We are quite clear,” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by India Today.

We are pretty much settled

During a recent event, Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the combination of the national team is pretty settled. However, Rohit did mention that there are one or two spots which are still up for grabs. He stated that the final decision regarding the selections will be jointly taken by the captain, head coach and selectors.

“I think we are pretty much settled (side). There are a few spots (that are up for grabs) which everyone knows about. But that all depends on what the captain, coach and the selectors think about the combination, whether they want to go with an extra seamer or an extra middle-order batsman or an extra opening batsman or an extra spinner,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying during a recent event in Mumbai.

Rohit noted that it is very important to select the team in accordance with the conditions in England. The Indian opener also talked about his experience of playing in England during the 2018 series and revealed that the conditions were pretty dry at that time. He mentioned that if there are similar conditions as were in 2018, then they would have to include an extra spinner.
