I Don’t Think We Want To Be Playing On These Kind Of Tracks Says MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recorded its fourth straight win at home last night at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by clinical 7-wicket margin. However, for the second time in this season, the Chepauk wicket once again rested the undue advantage in the bowlers’ courtyard. After the game, CSK skipper MS Dhoni also admitted that the behaviour of the Chepauk track has been very much surprising.

Both the KKR batters as well as the CSK batsmen struggled to adjust themselves in accordance with the conditions. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, KKR got off to a horrible start due to a brilliant spell bowled by CSK new ball bowler Deepak Chahar. The spin duo comprising of Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir too joined the party to hurt the visitors further and in turn reducing them to a miserable state at 47 for 6. In the end, Andre Russell played a gutsy half-century knock to take KKR to some kind of respectability with a total of 108 runs on the board.

In the second innings, the KKR bowlers also took advantage of the helpful conditions on offer and bowled really well to trouble the CSK batters. But then Faf du Plessis batted sensibly well to steer his team to an easy win.

It become too low scoring

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni mentioned that the home team too does not want to play on such low-scoring wickets. He reckoned that the conditions do become difficult for their batsmen as well. Dhoni also admitted the fact that it has been difficult to get the perfect team combination in absence of Dwayne Bravo. The former Windies all-rounder was recently ruled out for two weeks due to injury.

“I don’t think we want to be playing on these tracks. It becomes too low scoring. It becomes slightly difficult for our batsmen as well. After losing (Dwayne) Bravo, it is slightly difficult for us to get the combination right,” said MS Dhoni.

Dhoni mentioned that even the home team is unhappy with the behaviour of the Chennai wicket. “We have been cribbing about the track but we have ended up winning the game,” he added.

The age is on their side

Dhoni further praised the duo of Harbhajan and Tahir for their sensational performance thus far in the season. “The age is on their side. Bhajji has done well in whatever games he has played. I have fallen back on Tahir and he has done the job. He has confidence in me. He has got a very good flipper. He is someone who if you tell that this is the right pace to bowl on, he does it most of the times. I feel its important not to have the same plans for batters,” the CSK skipper concluded.
