In the 23rd match of the fascinating Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) marched out victorious with a spectacular 7-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. For the second time in this season, the Chepauk wicket once again rested the undue advantage in the bowlers’ courtyard. The CSK bowling trio of Deepak Chahar, Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir delivered sensational spells to reduce the visitors in a miserable state. Even after Andre Russell’s efficient half-century knock, KKR failed to put forward a competitive first innings total.
In the second innings, the KKR bowlers also took advantage of the helpful conditions on offer and bowled really well to trouble the CSK batters. But then Faf du Plessis batted sensibly well to steer his team to an easy win.
They are maturing
Harbhajan and Tahir bowled really well to contain the opposition batsmen and the duo returned with excellent figures of 2/15 and 2/21 respectively. After the game, CSK skipper MS Dhoni was in complete praise of Tahir and Harbhajan and noted that they appear like old wine. “Age is on their side (Harbhajan and Tahir). They are like old wine and they are maturing,” said MS Dhoni.
Dhoni revealed that Harbhajan has been doing really well in the tournament thus far. He mentioned that his decision to back Tahir has also come good. “Bhajji (Harbhajan) has done well in whatever games he has played. I have fallen back on Imran (Tahir) whenever needed and he has come up with very good performances,” he added.
The bowling unit overall looks good
Dhoni reckoned that his bowlers have delivered a remarkable performance so far in the season. However, he also noted that the real test for the bowling unit would be on flatter tracks with smaller boundaries. “Overall, the bowling unit looks good. But once we play on better and flatter wickets with smaller boundaries, we will have to see what is the best combination to play with,” inferred Dhoni.
The CSK skipper mentioned special praiseworthy comments for Tahir and noted that the Proteas leg-spinner has got the fabulous ability to deceive the batters quite a few times.
“He (Tahir) is someone who if you tell that this is the right pace to bowl on, he does it most of the times. He is someone who deceives the batsman quite a few times. Not only a good leggie and googly, he has got a very good flipper. Overall he is a good package,” the CSK skipper concluded.
