After two sizzling nail-biting encounters on consecutive days, the 26th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 edition between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Eden Gardens saw things coming back to normalization. The Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals recorded a clinical performance to beat the hosts by a convincing 7-wicket margin on Friday. In the first innings, KKR registered an imposing total on the back of opener Shubman Gill’s fantastic half-century knock and Andre Russell’s terrific cameo performance.
However, during Delhi’s innings with the bat, DC batting pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant relieved all the pressure of the run-chase with a sensational 100-plus partnership. Dhawan came back amongst the runs with a magnificent knock, while Pant also contributed with an entertaining and flashy innings, to guide Delhi towards a comfortable victory. With their fourth win of the season, DC have now climbed upto the fourth spot on the points table.
It was a clinical performance
After the victory, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer praised his boys for their clinical efforts. He also mentioned that this win has helped the team with tremendous confidence going into the next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Delhi will be playing against Hyderabad in the next game scheduled on April 14. Iyer noted that every single player performed his role very nicely and stated that the communication within the team is also improving.
“The Kolkata game gives us tremendous confidence going into the next match here in Hyderabad. It was a clinical performance from the team against a strong team like KKR. I feel that everyone took responsibility and with each game, our thought process is becoming clearer, and our communication is also improving, which is a great sign for the team,” quoted Shreyas Iyer.
Iyer mentioned that SRH is a strong team to beat at home as they have some outstanding players in their ranks. The Bhuvneshwar Kumar-led team emerged victorious in the first meeting of the two teams earlier in the tournament. “SRH is no doubt a good side with some outstanding players in their ranks, and even though we lost the first leg against them in Delhi, we have moved on from that result and have only gone on to improve in all departments,” he added.
Players understand their roles better
The skipper noted that his players have performed really well in the last two games against Bangalore and Kolkata. “All the players understand their roles better now and we have shown that in the last couple of matches. We will be going into this match with high spirits and looking for the two points,” the DC skipper concluded.
