Barbados-born fast bowler Jofra Archer is currently hottest property in the English cricket arenas. After shifting his nationality, he will soon become eligible to play international cricket for England. He is currently playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During a recent interview, England’s premier all-rounder across the three formats, Ben Stokes who is also representing the Royals mentioned some great praiseworthy comments for his teammate, Jofra Archer.
Jofra makes any team better
Jofra has claimed 7 wickets at an impressive average of 27.86 thus far in his second IPL season. Stokes mentioned that Archer’s presence can make any team better. He mentioned that Archer is the most gifted bowler he has ever came across in his cricketing career. Stokes even noted that the pacer doesn’t realizes his potential, but he is seriously very good.
“Jofra makes any team better. He is the most naturally gifted bowler I’ve seen and I don’t think he realises how good he is. Some of the things he can do at the click of a finger are just ‘wow’ – it’s pretty special to watch. You ask him to do something and he nails it straight away,” quoted Ben Stokes.
The selectors are going to be scratching their heads
Stokes also mentioned that it is absolutely incredible to have someone like Archer in the side, who can bowl at that pace on consistent basis. To add the contrary, Archer’s impressive performances in the last few months have increased the selection headaches of the English selection committee for the 2019 World Cup.
“To have somebody at the pace he bowls and the skills he has… the selectors are going to be scratching their heads and it’s a great time to be an England fan and an England player,” he added.
Stokes further noted that it is a tough ask on whether Archer will be able to make it to England World Cup team or not. “It’s a tough question. But it’s a great position to be in as an England team when you’ve got a player with the skill level Jofra’s got,” Stokes further added.
It gives us confidence
The Eoin Morgan-led England team has displayed a remarkable performance in the limited-over format of the game in the recent few years. Last year, the No.1 ranked ODI side recorded some fabulous ODI series victories against strong teams like Australia, New Zealand, India and Windies. Due to their sensational efforts, they are also being considered as top contenders to lift the World Cup 2019 title later this year in their own backyard.
“The one-day team has been playing some good cricket for the last three years and we have got ourselves to number one in the world, which was one of the targets of the side. The favourites tag doesn’t mean anything but it should give us confidence for what should be a memorable summer of cricket,” the English all-rounder concluded.
