David Warner And Steve Smith Make Their Returns In Cricket Australia Contract List

“The 2019-20 contract list provides us with a versatile group of players who can represent Australia across all three formats over the contract period.”

After being named in the Australian 15-member squad for the upcoming 2019 World Cup, the tainted duo comprising of Steven Smith and David Warner have also made their returns in Cricket Australia (CA) list of contracted players for the 2019-20 season. The Australian cricket board confirmed the announcement on Monday (April 15). The two mainstays of Australian cricket were out of the frame following the 12-month bans handed by Cricket Australia (CA) for their involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in 2018, after which they lost their central contracts as well.

Pattinson grabs a national contract; Mitchell Marsh and Matt Renshaw left out

James Pattinson has been named in the 20-player contract shortlist for the new season. He has been performing amazingly well since returning from injury. Pattinson played brilliantly during the recently concluded Sheffield Shield competition and he is probably a frontline contender for the Australian squad at the Ashes Test series. Mitchell Marsh has been out of contention for quite a while now due to his regular failures across the three formats and thus, he has not been included in the national contract list, while Matt Renshaw also missed out.

“We believe the 2019-20 contract list provides us with a versatile group of players who can represent Australia across all three formats over the contract period,” said chief selector Trevor Hohns.

From the last year’s roster, the likes of Ashton Agar, Kane Richardson, Billy Stanlake and Andrew Tye are the players to not be included in the shortlist. The trio of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Marcus Harris and Adam Zampa has made their way back into the frame.

“Our key criteria focused on selecting a pool of players who are going to help us in our ambition to win the upcoming World Cup and Ashes series in England, and who can also play the various formats over the course of the Australian summer,” Hohns added.

2019-20 Contract List: Patrick Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Alex Carey, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
