IPL 2019, Match 34- DC Vs MI, Preview: Rohit And His Men Aim To Settle The Scores Against Confident Delhi

After an intriguing game in Hyderabad, the focus now shifts to the 34th match of the fascinating Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, wherein Delhi Capitals (DC) will be hosting the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi on April 18. Both the teams would be very much high on confidence coming into this game after registering comprehensive victories in their respective previous outings. During the last meeting between the two teams earlier in the tournament, the Shreyas Iyer-led team defeated the three-time champions by 37 runs.

DC’s backstory

Delhi Capitals will be entering into this match on the back of a solid 39-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). It is a hard-fought fact to digest but it is true that the Delhi-based franchise has seriously punched above its weight and abilities to achieve the current position in the tournament. With five perfect wins in eight games under its sleeve, they are placed at the second spot on the points table. However, there are still some definite chinks in their batting department which will be concerning the team management.

None of the DC batters have played significant knocks on a consistent basis which has been a key degrading point thus far in the season. However, the bowlers have displayed sensational performances so far in the season, with the spinners and fast bowlers both doing really well. They will be looking to continue the good work in this game as well.

MI’s backstory

The Rohit Sharma-led team is coming into this game after recording a brilliant six-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last match. With five wins in the eight played this season, the three-time champions are surely looking as one of the strong contenders to lift the prestigious IPL 2019 title. However, for that to happen, there are some issues which need t be sorted out before the start of their ninth match in the tournament. Both the openers, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock have been consistently giving the team some explosive starts, but the likes of Ishan Kishan and especially Suryakumar Yadav have failed to continue the momentum which in turn has inflicted the pressure on the players guarding the finishers’ role.

However, just like the opposition, the MI bowlers have also performed amazing well thus far in the season. Both the fast bowlers as well as spinners have been successful at picking wickets on consistent basis to hurt the opposite teams.

Head to Head Battle

Overall (23)

At the Feroz Shah Kotla (10)

Delhi Capitals’ likely Playing XI

The Delhi team management has absolutely no major reasons to tinker with the winning combination from the previous game. The inconsistent opening duo comprising of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw will be hoping to provide a solid start. Colin Munro did a decent job in his first match this season and thus, he will continue to bat at number three in this game as well. The other middle-order batters are the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

Chris Morris and Axar Patel are the two all-rounders and the latter will also handle the spin bowling duties along with Amit Mishra. The quartet of Chris Morris, Keemo Paul, Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma will form part of the fast bowling attack. They could be tempted to play an extra spinner in place in place of a pacer as the Delhi track usually has some help for spinners.

Probable XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Colin Munro, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Keemo Paul, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma.

Mumbai Indians’ likely Playing XI

For the Mumbai Indians, the pair comprising of skipper Rohit Sharma and keeper-batsman Quinton de Kock will once again take the guard as the two openers. Suryakumar Yadav’s lackluster form this season has been a major concern for the team and he is likely to make way for Yuvraj Singh. Ishan Kishan smacked some lusty blows in the last match and he will get another chance on the basis of the same criteria, but this time he will come in at three. Yuvraj will take up the crucial number four spot, with the likes of Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya to follow.

In the fast bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah will partner with Lasith Malinga and Jason Behrendorff. Hardik will also be bowling some crucial wicket-taking overs, while Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar will take care of the spin bowling duties.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Ishan Kishan, Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Lasith Malinga, Rahul Chahar, Jason Behrendorff, Jasprit Bumrah.
