IPL 2019: Shreyas Gopal Says It’s Difficult To Make Any Plans For Virat Kohli And AB De Villiers

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have witnessed a very poor run in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Ajinkya Rahane-led team has managed to win just two matches out of the eight games played this season and are thus, languishing at the seventh position on the points table. The Royals have now left themselves with an uphill task of winning at least five of the remaining six games and then wait for the mathematical calculations in order to find a place in the playoffs.

However, their players have displayed a couple fantastic performances and one of those players is Shreyas Gopal. The leg-spinner has stunned everyone with his excellent ability to deceive the batters. Gopal has eight wickets from 8 matches at an economy rate of 6.60 and best bowling figures of 3/12. His best performance, however, came against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2, where he picked up wickets of De Villiers, Kohli and Shimron Hetmyer.

There was no plan for them

During a recent interview, Gopal revealed that it is very difficult to plan something against Kohli and de Villiers. He mentioned that he wanted to deceive them with a googly and keep it as tight as possible. Gopal stated that both Kohli and de Villiers failed to judge the deliveries and he fortunately managed to grab two big wickets.

“There was no plan for them (Kohli and De Villiers). You can’t make any plan for such great batsmen. I just wanted to bowl a googly and keep it tight as possible. They misread the line of the ball and I was fortunate to get their wickets,” Shreyas Gopal was quoted as saying by Times of India.

I am just happy that my hardwork is finally paying off

Gopal further mentioned that he feels delighted to see that his hardwork is finally paying off. Gopal also played a match-winning cameo knock with the bat to help his team cross the line against Mumbai Indians (MI).  “There is no secret. I am just happy that my hard work in the past year is paying off. Despite the kind of result we are getting as a team, personally, I had a decent season from the start and will just try to continue and get even better. It is always good to have both skills in your armory as it gives you a chance to contribute to your team,” he added.
