Virender Sehwag Hails Russell, Says He Can Do Anything With The Bat In Hand

Former Indian legendary opener Virender Sehwag has praised Andre Russell and Virat Kohli for their staggering performances in the recently concluded thrilling game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The jam packed crowd seated at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata got to witness an absolute blockbuster of encounter in which an astounding total of 413 runs were scored combined by both the teams. RCB recorded a monumental first innings total on the back of Virat Kohli’s scintillating hundred and Moeen Ali’s entertaining half-century.

While in the second innings, even after a disappointing start, the belligerent KKR duo comprising of Nitish Rana and Andre Russell stole the show with some incredible and astonishing hitting. The pair smashed the RCB bowlers handsomely in different parts of the ground but eventually fell short of taking their team over the finishing line. This was KKR’s fourth loss in a row this season and after a great start, the Dinesh Karthik-led team now finds itself languishing behind at the sixth position on the points table.

In the second innings, KKR got off to a horrible start, losing three big wickets of Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine and Shubman Gill with just 33 runs on the scoreboard. RCB’s latest recruit Dale Steyn delivered an excellent opening spell to rattle the KKR top-order. After those early jitters, it was the pair of Nitish Rana and Andre Russell which started a herculean recovery. The duo ripped apart the RCB bowling line-up into mere bits of paper, racking up a staggering tally of 118 runs in just eight overs to make a thrilling game out of nowhere.

Russell smashed a thunderous knock of 65 runs off just 25 balls which consisted of 9 gigantic sixes and 2 fours and during that process he almost pulled off an incredible win for his team. But in the end, Moeen Ali held his nerves to successfully see off an unbeaten Nitish Rana strangled in the chase for a fabulous 46-ball 85.

Almost anything is possible

After the game, Sehwag took to Twitter to state that nothing seems to be impossible when someone destructive like Russell is at the crease with the bat in hand. He revealed that it was the cleanest hitting one can ever witness. Sehwag also noted that Virat’s sensational century knock was surely a top-notch innings.

“Almost anything is possible. Andre Russell can do anything with bat in hand. Cleanest hitting one can wish to see. Fantastic 100 from Virat as well and a top class match,” wrote Virender Sehwag on Twitter.
