Virat Kohli would certainly be a happy-go-lucky man after snatching an unbelievable 1-run victory almost from the jaws of defeat last night against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, the matters could have been worse for Kohli, as the CSK skipper, MS Dhoni had nearly pulled off a herculean recovery with a blinder of a knock. It turned out to be one of the most thrilling finishes in the entire history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The packed Chinnaswamy crowd got to witness a brilliant thrilling encounter which went down the wire with RCB prevailing through off just the final ball with an astonishing 1-run victory. CSK bowling trio of Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja delivered sensational spells to restrict the RCB batsmen within a modest first innings total of 161 runs.
In the second innings, Dale Steyn and Umesh Yadav wrecked havoc as CSK lost four quick wickets at the top. MS Dhoni then pulled off a herculean recovery with a marvelous unbeaten innings, but eventually he fell short of guiding his team over the finishing line. With this victory, the Virat Kohli-led team has also kept its playoffs hopes alive and CSK slumped to its second loss on the trot.
MS Dhoni did what he does best
Dhoni remained unbeaten after playing a staggering knock of 84 runs off just 48 balls which consisted of 5 fours and 7 sixes. After the game, RCB skipper Virat Kohli mentioned that after losing the last couple of games by close margins, it feels good to end up winning this one. Kohli revealed that Dhoni gave the home team a massive scare and there was a lot of emotion after that last ball run-out.
“Feels good to win a game by a small margin. We’ve lost a couple by small margins. MS did what he does best and he gave us all a massive scare. Off the last ball, that was the last thing I would have expected to happen. There was a whole lot of emotion,” quoted Virat Kohli.
They showed a lot of composure
Kohli heaped a lot of praises for his bowlers and mentioned that they showed a lot of composure against a quality team such as CSK. The RCB skipper noted that defending 160 runs on that sort of wicket with the dew factor also playing a definite part was absolutely incredible effort. Both Umesh Yadav and Dale Steyn were absolutely sensational with the new ball last night.
“They (bowlers) showed a lot of composure playing against a side like CSK. We were outstanding with the ball until the 19th over mark. Defending 160 on that sort of pitch and the amount of dew we had was an outstanding effort,” concluded Kohli.
