Rajasthan Royals (RR) have experienced a very difficult period in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Steve Smith-led team recently conceded a convincing 6-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) in the previous outing. With this loss, the inaugural IPL champions have also almost depleted their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs as they are now reduced to a situation where even if they are able to win all of their remaining four games, they have to wait for the other results and mathematical calculations to fall in their favour.
We haven’t performed near to the abilities
During a recent conversation, Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Ben Stokes talked about the disappointing performance of his team and mentioned that they haven’t performed anywhere near to their abilities this season. He revealed the biggest disappointment has been that they have not been able to win the critical moments on consistent basis. The Royals are currently placed at the seventh position on the points table.
“I wouldn’t quite say up and down as that would be a bit generous. We haven’t performed anywhere near to the capabilities that we have. The games we have won, we have won the critical moments and it is a shame that we have managed to do that in just two games. The big thing this year is that we haven’t managed to win the critical moments,” quoted Ben Stokes.
I wouldn’t want to change anything
Stokes is going to play an integral role in England’s journey at the upcoming 2019 World Cup. He stated that it is very difficult to go into training sessions knowing to manage the workload. Stokes also mentioned that the most negative things about the IPL is the hectic scheduling of the matches.
“It is tough as you got to go into training sessions knowing that you have your bowling workload as well as your batting workload. But you get used to it after so many years. But the harsh thing about the IPL is the number of games you play in such a short span of time and with all the travel involved,” he added.
The English all-rounder stated that it is important to be careful while training as there is a certain case of getting injured, which can sideline for a big time period. “Also, you have to be mindful of the workload because you don’t want to overdo it and then injure yourself when you have had a 9-hour travel or things like that. It is taxing, but I wouldn’t want to change anything about what I do,” Stokes explained.
