De Villiers And Umesh’s Combined Efforts Helps RCB Extend Winning Momentum

In the 42nd match of the intriguing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 extravaganza, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) extended its winning momentum with a sensational 17-run victory over Kings XI Punjab (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB’s premier overseas recruit AB de Villiers dominated the proceedings in the first innings, smashing a staggering unbeaten knock to propel his team to a monumental total. While in the second innings, right-arm fast bowler Umesh Yadav bowled a brilliant spell to restrict the opposition and in turn powered RCB to a splendid victory. With this win, the Virat Kohli-led team have somehow managed to keep their playoff hopes very much alive and kicking.

De Villiers’ sensational knock and Stoinis’ late blitz power RCB to 202

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the two RCB openers, skipper Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel started things with a decent opening partnership of 35 runs. KXIP new ball bowler Mohammed Shami then bowled a fantastic delivery that forced Kohli to once again throw his wicket away. However, the other opener, Parthiv steadied the run-flow by smashing Shami for a total of 18 runs in the final over of the powerplay. Even after losing Kohli cheaply, RCB managed to register a fabulous total of 70 for 1 in the powerplay. Then the Ashwin duo comprising of Murugan Ashwin and Ravichandran Ashwin brought KXIP back in the game, removing first Parthiv and then the in-form Moeen Ali.

After those jitters, the onus was on AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis to lead the home team to a challenging total. The former started his innings on a tentative note but after getting set on the crease, he slowly started unveiling his true colours, ripping apart the KXIP bowling line-up. Together de Villiers and Stoinis smashed a blistering total of 64 runs in the last three overs to propel KXIP towards a massive total of 202 runs. De Villiers compiled a brilliant unbeaten innings of 82 runs which consisted of 7 sixes and 3 fours, while Stoinis remained unbeaten for a 34-ball 46.

Umesh and Saini’s combined efforts outweighs the sizzling ‘Pooran Show’

In the second innings, Chris Gayle got things underway by smacking Tim Southee for a total of 14 runs in the opening over. However, RCB’s other new ball bowler Umesh Yadav then showed excellent presence of mind, shortening his length which forced Gayle to be a touch late in his stroke and this also resulted in the KXIP opener’s dismissal as well. After Gayle’s wicket, then started the KL Rahul- Mayank Agarwal show. The two Karnataka cricketers stitched a vital partnership of 59 runs at a blazing pace to steady things up for KXIP.

However, the RCB all-rounder pair of Marcus Stoinis and Moeen Ali then pulled things back nicely, dismissing both Rahul and Mayank in successive overs. After those two quick wickets, the runs also dried down for KXIP. But then came a massive turning point in the game as Nicholas Pooran suddenly started bashing the RCB bowlers to the cleaners. He first took Washington Sundar on remand, smashing him for three sixes in the 14th over and then dispatched Moeen for a couple of lusty blows to keep KXIP very much alive in the run-chase.

But then the RCB fast bowling duo comprising of Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini combined together to take down the ‘Pooran Show’. Umesh and Navdeep together picked up five wickets in the last two overs to successful restrict KXIP in the run-chase and in turn the duo guided their team to an amazing victory. For RCB, Umesh was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with three crucial wickets, while Saini also claimed two wickets.
