All You Need To Know About The New Home Of The T10 Cricket Carnival

After the big-time success of the first two editions of the T10 League, the most intriguing form of the game is back with its third season but with a new name as well as venue. The T10 Cricket League now known as the Abu Dhabi T10 League will commence its showdown in the new home at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium from October 23, 2019. The first two seasons of the T10 carnival witnessed a plethora of records being made, which astonished the entire cricketing world and thus, the expectations from the upcoming third season have already reached the cusp.

The first season which consisted of four fixtures and then the next 12-day edition, were both played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). And this time the shortest format of the game would showcase its presence exclusively at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The popular Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium located in the UAE was originally unlocked in May 2004. The cricket ground accrued a huge cost of nearly $23 million to be built. At one point of time, a near about capacity of 20,000 people can enjoy the thrilling and astounding experience of the cricketing expedition on offer. The stadium has a big stand at the either end and the areas square of the wicket offer additional seating in the form of grass banks.

The curtain raiser game at the stadium happened to be a first-class match between Scotland and Kenya which was part of the Intercontinental Cup in November, 2004. The first international game played at the Zayed Cricket Stadium was a One-Day International game between arch-rivals, Pakistan and India in April, 2006. It was a charity event named the Friendship Series, comprising of back-to-back ODI fixtures. While the first Test match at the venue was showcased between Pakistan and South Africa from 20-24 November in 2010.

While speaking on the latest five-year association, Saif Saeed Ghobash, the Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, mentioned that the T10 tournament’s presence in the city represents an exciting opportunity to attract even more visitors from around the globe. He reckoned that the T10 League has arrived in a city which is a major global hub along with a huge variety of attractions that cater to people of all ages and backgrounds.

The General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Al- Awani, also mentioned that the T10 is fast, punchy, exciting cricket and that makes it perfect for those wanting to watch the competition in the UAE. Awani further stated that the decision to host T10 in Abu Dhabi is a fitting demonstration of the strategic investments made over the recent years in the sporting infrastructure such as training facilities and match stadiums.
