IPL 2019, Match 54- RCB Vs SRH, Preview: RCB Aim For Pride, SRH Desperate To Stay Afloat

In the second game of the Super IPL Saturday (May 4), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be hosting the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This will be the last game of the season for these two teams. The hosts have already been knocked out of the tournament and all they have is pride to play for, while the Sunrisers will be desperately eyeing for a win to remain alive in this embracing playoffs race. In the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the competition, Sunrisers emerged victorious with a resounding 118-run margin.

RCB’s backstory

The Virat Kohli-led team is coming into this match after witnessing the last game ending without a result due to rain gods halting the five-overs-a-side encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Though they have been knocked out of the tournament, the RCB team will be aiming to play for pride and also spoil the party for Sunrisers. The same old problems unfolded for RCB in the last match as the dependency on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers was clearly evident.

The middle-order batters failed to contribute with significant performances and that has been the story of RCB’s batting struggles this season. While the bowling also didn’t come good for RCB in the last match. Barring the likes of Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal, the rest of the bowlers haven’t been that impressive this year, however, they would be hoping to end things on a positive note.

SRH’s backstory

The Kane Williamson-led team is entering this game after conceding a heartening loss in the nervy Super Over finish in the last match against Mumbai Indians (MI). The 2016 champions now first need to win this match and then also hope for the rest of the results to fall in their favour as well. However, they have a great advantage in a strong net run-rate which will help them eclipse other teams, but they need to win this match for that to happen. SRH’s batting looked very fidgety in the last game in the absence of David Warner. Manish Pandey’s sensational form has been the major positive for them.

However, their bowling has been very much upto the mark in the last few matches as both the fast bowlers as well as the spinners have bowled really well. They would now be hoping to continue their good work in this game as well.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s likely Playing XI

With this being the last game of the season, RCB could chose to give chance to the benched players and some of them already featured in the previous match as well. The duo comprising of skipper Virat Kohli and keeper Parthiv Patel haven’t come good collectively as an opening combination this season and they will be hoping to end the matters on a great note. AB de Villiers will also be eying to contribute with a match-winning knock, which has not come for a while now. The pair of Heinrich Klaasen and Gurkeerat Singh Mann will retain their respective slots, while Marcus Stoinis has returned back home for World Cup preparations.

Shimron Hetmyer might be back in the frame in Stoinis’ absence. Yuzvendra Chahal and Pawan Negi will be the two spinners. Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini and Kulwant Khejroliya will form part of the fast bowling attack.

Probable XI: Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Shimron Hetmyer, Heinrich Klaasen, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Pawan Negi, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kulwant Khejroliya.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s likely Playing XI

Even after suffering a loss in the last match, SRH will still field the same playing XI in this game as well. The pair of Martin Guptill and Wriddhiman Saha will open the batting. The in-form Manish Pandey will have a huge responsibility on his shoulders while taking up the number three spot. SRH skipper Kane Williamson would be desperate to end his struggles and lead the side from the front. Vijay Shankar will come in at five, while Mohammad Nabi and Abhishek Sharma will be the two all-rounders.

In the fast bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will partner with the duo comprising of Khaleel Ahmed and Basil Thampi. The Afghan pair of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi will handle the spin bowling duties along with some assistance from Abhishek Sharma.

Probable XI: Martin Guptill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson (c), Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Basil Thampi, Khaleel Ahmed.
