World Cup 2019, Match11- PAK Vs SL, Preview: A Spirited Asiatic Battle Awaits In Bristol

Pakistan have a huge upper hand over Sri Lanka in World Cup matches.”

The World Cup 2019 extravaganza is moving at a stunning pace and the ten teams have also started to acclimatize well with the English conditions. In the 11th game of the 50-over quadrennial tournament, two Asian teams, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be taking on each other at the County Ground in Bristol on June 7, Friday. Both the teams are coming into this match after registering brilliant victories in their respective previous outings. They would now be hoping to keep up the confidence high and the winning momentum as well.

Pakistan has a lot to cheer about as their win against the tournament favourites England was a lot more satisfying and morale-boosting when compared to the Islanders just about pipping the Afghan contingent despite not putting in their best effort. These two sides, who won the championship in consecutive editions back in 1992 and 1996, find themselves in a situation where survival is the top priority.

In the batting department, the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed have gained some much-needed form and they will be looking to do well in this game as well. On the other hand, Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz picked up crucial wickets against England and they also bowled well at the death. A lot will depend on the conditions and the nature of the pitch at Bristol.

Sri Lanka are coming into this match after recording a fine victory over Afghanistan in their previous match. Kusal Perera and Nuwan Pradeep recorded brilliant performances to help their team to help their team open the account in this tournament. However, the team management will be stressing on their batting  as they suffered a huge collapse in the last match against Afghanistan. The Lankan batsmen found it tough to tackle the Afghan spinners especially Mohammad Nabi.

But in the bowling department, Nuwan Pradeep and Lasith Malinga bowled pretty well to take the Sri Lankan team home comfortably. They would be expected to continue doing the good work in this match as well.

Pakistan’s likely Playing XI

After recording a brilliant win in their previous match, no changes are expected in this XI with both Haris Sohail and Imad Wasim expected to warm the bench. Asif Ali will keep his place and so will Shoaib Malik despite not showering any big runs so far. Apart from Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez, no other batters got a considerable amount of runs and that will be something for them to ponder upon. Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz were sensational with the ball and Hasan Ali too will be keen to catch up with his bowling partners.

Probable XI: Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), Asif Ali, Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir.

Sri Lanka’s likely Playing XI

Kusal Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne are getting some runs, some positive for the Sri Lankan unit. The likes of Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva need to buck up soon before they receive a cold shoulder from the management. Nuwan Pradeep saved the day for Sri Lanka against Afghanistan with Lasith Malinga cleaning up the tail, they are getting into this game with some confidence. They might be tempted to play Jeffrey Vandersay, but might go ahead with Isuru Udana.

Probable XI: Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Kusal Perera (wk), Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Pradeep.
