Bishan Singh Bedi Comes In The Defense Of Rashid Khan Against Iceland Cricket

Rashid Khan didn’t experience the best of outings in Manchester on Tuesday. He was taken apart for 110 runs in his nine overs and these were also the worst figures for a spinner in ODI cricket ever. The leggie has been doing well for Afghanistan over the years but this World Cup hasn’t been good for him so far. He has picked only three wickets after sending down 31.5 overs.

He conceded the 100th run of his spell in 8.1 overs which was also the fastest ever much to Rashid’s dismay. Soon after the record, the Iceland Cricket’s Twitter handle took a dig at Afghanistan bowler and trolled him stating, “Well batted young man.” This hasn’t gone down well with a lot of former and current cricketers as they slammed Iceland Cricket for the same right, left and centre.

“We’ve just heard that Rashid Khan has scored Afghanistan’s first century of the #CWC19! Wow! 110 from 56 balls. The most runs ever scored by a bowler in the World Cup or something. Well batted young man. #ENGvAFG #AFGvENG,” the tweet read.

The latest to join the list is former India cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi who has termed this as ‘as the below the belt’ act and backed Rashid Khan to come back strongly as a bowler.

Rashid Khan is going to be better

Bishan Singh Bedi’s words should definitely make feel Rashid Khan better as the former felt that the leg-spinner will come out as a better and complete bowler and will only learn from this experience. “Shocking tweet..clearly hitting below the belt..!! Personally I feel @rashidkhan_19 is going to be a better & complete bowler after yesterday’s ‘stick’…All part of the game.@rashidkhan_19..hold yur chin up..Allah Mehfooz Rakhe..!!”

During the post-match press conference, Afghanistan skipper Gulbadin Naib spoke in the defence of Rashid and termed him as a star player in world cricket. He stated that everyone knows how good he is and it was just not his day. Naib mentioned that the team is not too concerned about Rashid’s poor form in the tournament.

As far as his performance in the World Cup so far is concerned, Rashid hasn’t been able to wield his magic. He has sent down 31.5 overs in five innings and has only managed to pick three wickets and the man himself would be disappointed with this show.

“He’s one of the best spinners, he’s a star player in world cricket. It can happen with any player. Everyone knows how good he is and how he bowls. I think it was not his day today. But it’s cricket, sometimes you do well, sometimes this kind of stuff happens. I’m happy with him. I don’t think it’s a big deal,” Gulbadin Naib mentioned during the post-match press conference.
