Bangladesh had a very bad outing in the World Cup 2019, something that the captain of the Bangladeshi captain Mashrafe Mortaza agrees with. He even said that his team has led down their supporters and he solely took responsibility of it saying that he failed to make the team register a miracle to reach into the final four of the World Cup. He further said that he is very disappointed and they were not playing well and so could not make a mark to reach the semi-final.
“We are definitely disappointed. If some results had gone our way maybe we could have reached the semi-final. Overall, the way we played was very positive but we couldn’t fulfil our expectations,” said Mashrafe.
But I’m sure all spectators and players wanted the team to finish in the top four
He further talked upon saying that if they would have won the last match, they would’ve ended fifth of the points table. He knows that the team’s spectators and players wanted them to finish in the top four of the World Cup 2019 but they were unable to do so. “If we had won the last match, we could have finished fifth. But I’m sure all spectators and players wanted the team to finish in the top four,” said the Bangladeshi captain.
Until the India match, we officially had a chance for the semi-finals
Bangladesh finished the World Cup 2019 at the eighth position at the end of the league phase after South Africa defeated Australia in the last match before the commencing of the semi-final at the Old Trafford. Bangladesh aided defeats to teams like South Africa, West Indies and Afghanistan but lost some of the big matches marginally but still stayed up in the contention until South Africa handed defeat to Afghanistan.
“Until the India match, we officially had a chance for the semi-finals. But other than Shakib (Al Hasan) and Mushfiq (Mushfiqur Rahim)” there was a lack of consistency, he said, adding allrounder Mohammed Saifuddin played “outstanding cricket”. One whole week was interrupted by rain, which hampered us and helped some teams,” said Mortaza.
