TNPL 2019, Match1- DD Vs CSG, Preview: Cracking Encounter Set To Open The T20 Extravaganza

It is action time in the fourth Sankar Cement Tamil Nadu Twenty20 Premier League (TNPL) as a fresh season is all set to get underway at the picturesque NPR College Ground, Natham on July 19, 2019 (Friday). Over the last three seasons, TNPL has unearthed some of the finest talents in the state. Cricketers from all over Tamil Nadu found a wonderful platform to display their skill in a league that attracts a nation-wide audience. TNPL 2019 will also feature the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik who are two of its biggest attractions.

The league will witness eight teams taking part in it yet again and Madurai Panthers will enter the tournament as the defending champions. A total of 32 matches will be played – 15 in Natham, 15 in Tirunelvelli and 2 in Chennai. TNPL aims at unearthing new talent this time as well and it is expected to provide better entertainment than the previous editions of the tournament.

The tournament opener has the potential to be a cracker as it pitches two strong teams – last year’s finalists and hosts Dindigul Dragons (DD) and 2017 champions Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) against each other.

Dindigul Dragons (DG)

All eyes are going to be on Ravi Ashwin as the Dindigul Dragons take the field. Not only is he regarded as one of the sharpest T20 minds but his all-round game translates very well to the shortest format of the game. Ashwin was very good as captain of the Kings XI Punjab and was one of the bright spots in a side that underperformed expectations. He has also had a very good time in the English County circuit and should be in very good form.

N Jagadeesan is the other player that the Dindigul Dragons faithful will want to see start the tournament well. He scored more runs than any other player in the Dindigul Dragons side in 2018 and is an essential component of the side.

The challenge for teams is always to find a good balance in the playing eleven early on in the tournament. Having the experience of Ashwin and Jagadeesan will help the lesser experienced players get comfortable under the spotlight. Jagannathan Kaushik, M Silambarasan, and NS Chaturved are some of the players that we are going to be having an eye on as well.

Squad: Ravichandran Ashwin (c), N Jagadeeshan (wk), M Mohammad, Ramalingam Rohit, Adithya Arun, Jagannathan Kaushik, NS Chaturved, Hari Nishanth, Mohan Abhinav, M Silambarasan, Trilok Nag, Varun Totadri, R Vivek, Sumant Jain, ME Yazh Arun Mozhi, S Sujay.

Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG)

The Chepauk Super Gillies have made the important acquisition of Kaushik Gandhi into their side and that is a big plus for them heading into TNPL 2019. Gandhi has played many important aggressive innings for the TUTI Patriots and will be hoping to lead the Chepauk Super Gillies revival.

They are going to be missing Vijay Shankar, a huge loss considering the quality he brings in every single department of the game. Vijay Shankar may have failed to nail down a spot in the Indian team but at the level which TNPL is played, he is an absolute superstar.

Uthirasamy Sasidev, Ganga Sridhar Raju, and Gopinath are also going to be key to the batting success of the Chepauk Super Gillies. The bowling is a bit more settled than the batting at this point for the Chepauk Super Gillies. They have Murugan Ashwin leading the way for them. He is an excellent spinner and had a very good IPL this time also. He is used aggressively by his captains and always goes for wickets.

Squad: Vijay Shankar (c), Gopinath (wk), A Aarif (wk), Ganga Sridhar Raju, Baskaran Rahul, MK Sivakumar, Uthirasamy Sasidev, Kaushik Gandhi, Murugan Ashwin, Sunny Kumar Singh, Arun Kumar, M Siddharth, R Alexander, S Harish Kumar, Samruddh Bhat, B Arun, S Karthik.
