In the fourth match of the exciting Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019 extravaganza, Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) have recorded a comprehensive 8-wicket victory over the VB Kanchi Veerans (VBKV) at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul. The Kovai Kings played some remarkable cricket throughout the duration of the game both with the ball and bat. In the end, skipper Abhinav Mukund led his team from the front by playing a solid innings to guide his team towards a comfortable win.
Manigandan’s three-fer restricts the Veerans
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the Kanchi Veerans got off to a horrendous start losing the wickets of both their openers, U Mukilesh and K Vishal Vaidhya within the first two overs of the game. The duo comprising of skipper Baba Aparajith and Suresh Lokeshwar then got together to bail their team out of the troublesome situation. They stitched a fine partnership of 62 runs before skipper Aparajith got out in the 11th over off leg-spinner S Manigandan’s bowling.
However, Lokeshwar kept things firm at the other end, notching an excellent innings of 51 runs off 41 balls. Lokeshwar and Sanjay Yadav compiled a vital stand of 51 runs for the fourth wicket before Manigandan once again halted their progress.
Towards the end, Francis Rokins played an amazing cameo of 25 runs off only 7 balls to help the Kanchi Veerans with a fighting total of 150 runs on the board. For the Kovai Kings, Manigandan finished with three crucial scalps, while T Natarajan took two wickets.
Shahrukh and Mukund’s aggressive opening stand leads the Kings in the chase
Chasing a target of 151 runs in the second innings, Kovai Kings started their progress on a pretty aggressive note as their two openers, Shahrukh Khan and skipper Abhinav Mukund came out in a dazzling mood. The duo stitched an incredible opening partnership of 84 runs in just 6.5 overs to help their team attain a solid position very early in the chase. Shahrukh got out after playing a fine came of 40 runs off 21 balls that included of five fours and two sixes.
However, Mukund kept playing his natural game and scored a brilliant knock of 70 runs off 44 balls to take his team towards an easy win with 4.4 overs to spare. Mukund remained unbeaten till the end along with Anirudh Sita Ram (22 off 23 balls) and the duo stitched an important match-winning stand of 50 runs.
