Dhas All-Round Show Goes In Vain As TUTI Patriots Get Over The Line

In the eighth match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019 edition, TUTI Patriots (TP) defeated the Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) by six runs at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul. Due to the rain interruption, the game got reduced to a 13-overs per side contest. The Patriots performed really well both with the bat and ball to outmatch Antony Dhas’ sensational effort to help the Kings come very close in the game, but eventually that went in vain.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first in a rain-curtailed match, the TUTI Patriots got off to the worst of starts losing the wicket of opening batsman Sivagnanan Senthilnathan in the very first over. The duo of Akshay Srinivasan and Subramania Siva then got together to resurrect the Patriots’ innings and stitched a fine stand of 54 runs. Akshay got out in the fourth over after playing a quick-fire cameo of 31 runs off only 11 balls that included of four sixes and one four.

Siva kept batting with an aggressive intent at the other end and played a vital knock of 44 runs off 21 balls that consisted of five sixes and two fours. Abhishiek and Rajagopal contributed with some valuable runs in the middle.

Towards the end, Vasanth Saravanan and SP Nathan compiled an important unbeaten stand of 44 runs to help the Patriots finish with 155 runs on the board. For the Kovai Kings, Antony Dhas picked up three vital scalps.

Antony’s knock gets defied by the Patriots’ bowling

Chasing a big target of 156 runs in the second innings, Kings started off their innings on a disappointing note as they lost three wickets in the form of Abhinav Mukund, Shahrukh Khan and B Anirudh Sita Ram with just 13 runs on the scoreboard. The pair of N Mohammed Ashik and Akkil Srinaath then settled down the things with a fine partnership of 49 runs for the fourth wicket.

Antony Dhas and Srinaath added 71 runs for the fifth wicket partnership. Dhas after doing his job with the ball, played an incredible innings with the bat as well scoring 63 runs off just 26 balls that included of seven sixes and two fours. With this knock, he provided the Kings with a serious chance of coming very close to seal the encounter.

However, after his dismissal, things didn’t recover and eventually they fell short of the target by a small margin. Jaganath provided a hope by hitting two sixes in the final over but still the Kings managed to get 149 runs in 13 overs. For the Patriots, Davidson and Kumaran took two wickets each.
